it depends.
Lasso has done some things a GL ring could probably never do (binding Queen of Fables for instance) but GL ring has so much more versatility.

You have to actually be able to catch someone in the lasso for it to be used.
Green Lantern ring gives you more (fighting) in terms of offensive and defensive capabilities and more (lazy) convenience abilities such as flight, teleportating, computer analysis, etc
