and Thanos turns to reveal his face with a wicked grin. The line has more than one meaning: Thanos doesn’t just worship Death, he loves it. His main motivation is a literal and romantic love of Death, and everything he does is for this.
When Thanos “courts death” he isn’t risking his life — he’s proving his love. And to prove that love, he'll destroy all that is life in the Universe.
That line was a marvelous (no pun intended) bit of fan-service to people like me who recognized it for what it was. I could almost see Joss Whedon himself tipping his hat to me as he turned to leave the theatre. “That line, Supermex… that was for you.”

I don't remember anyone trying to erase their minds. So it could possibly work. Who knows. I was thinking more of making them go to sleep like Dr. X. Or making them see illusions so that they are sitting ducks attacking nothing.
