Too powerful character team cut

Characters that just throw the team concept out the window.
There's a Justice League Dark thread where Phantom Stranger is on the team and is basically the reason its an unbeatable team. Why even bother with the rest?
People have said that about Superman. Sometimes Thor, the rest of the team just clears the way for them.

Agree? Disagree? Nominations?

This is a good thread, let me think on it a bit.

Thor's definitely a choice for the Avengers lineup but fortunately both they and the JLA sometimes face enemies that are way out of their paygrade, so it's not always noticable smile

Thor's member was cut, but then so was his right arm ... Are Gods not allowed to masturbate?

All joking aside, on the Avengers it's definitely Thor.

Mjolnir is a plot device. Whatever you need it to do, it will do.

His physical stats are no joke either. He's basically an "enraged" level Hulk without the insane healing factor and adrenaline boosted strength. He's easily in the top 3 physically strongest Avengers.

To top it all off, he has all of Asgard(ia)'s resources at his command since he's it's prince.

No other Team has a member that powerful and versatile.

I always thought the pre-crisis Superman/Batman/Robin team-up in World's Finest was ridiculous. Even as a kid, I was thinking, how in blazes are Batman/Robin useful to planet-pushing Superman??

I always just thought Superman wasnt as smart as Batman, needed someone to help him out of the are-tarded kryptonite traps he kept falling into, and he liked mentoring Robin...

The X-men, interestingly, are quite rounded.

I wouldn't put Superman on this list considering most jla lineups have a green lantern, Martian manhunter, flash combo on them. He is arguably the most powerful on the team normally but I don't think he makes or breaks the team concept.

I think Thor has generally been the poster boy since he is Cleary a step above the rest on most avengers teams. Doc Manhatten is a big example where the rest of the team is totally moot with him around.

Yeah, JLA is fine because they're so stocked. No single character stands out as too OP.

I'd actually argue for The Doctor over her. Especially early on when it was Jenny Sparks. They tried every trick in the book to PIS him out of stories so that it wouldn't end in a few panels. Hell, in one story it literally did end in a few panels once he decided "Ok, enough of this sh*t" and actually showed up to the party.

In fairness, that was kinda the point with him.

True. Was a tossup in my head over which to put down....but the heroin junkie Jeroen was too endearing, what with his love of horse porn, to cut.

On Doc Manhattan in Watchmen, the thing is he was also about as useless as he is powerful, given his detached nature and complete lack of imagination.

Surfer on Defenders, on the other hand, beat Prince of Orphans twice. After he made a fool of not only guys like Iron Fist, Namor, and Rshulk, but even Dr. F'n Strange. Built up Amon into a nice threat, if not for mr. plot device.

It really depends on which JLA lineup you are talking about. Since, the one with Wally West? Yeah, Wally stands way way way out. Wally West at his most powerful could of solo'd the entire league by himself. Think about it: he can move at many many times the speed of light(to the point Superman is a statue compared to him). He can hit with enough force to KO white martians and he can also steal speed to the point it takes you a century just to blink.

There isn't anyone in the JLA who could resist a speed steal or millions of punches of the same caliber as the one he knocked a martian into orbit with.

With all that said that is why I can't help but always laugh whenever I'd see someone complaining about Superman being too powerful, and yet they seemingly have no problem with some of his teammates, some of which are just as broken or even more broken then he is. I've seen people dislike the character because they think he is too powerful, which means these same people should utterly hate Wally West. They should also despise Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern too.

My problem with Manhattan is that when you think about it he was mostly all talk. Sure, he said he had done things like walk on suns, etc. but he never actually does anything like that. I always see people applying a level of power to him that he just plain never actually showed on panel.
