Hercules. Not the Marvel version, the actual Greek myth. Realistically, every modern superhero with superhuman strength owes a nod to Herc, Hulk probably more so than many. The rage issues are a direct inheritance as well.

Hugo Danner, from the 1930s comic(s) "Gladiator".
Note the similarity of the last name.

:up.
Samson, Moses, Jesus, Hercules, Nietzsches Übermensch = Superman
Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, Hercules, = Solom Grundy = Hulk/Doomsday

Or Sampson. You know he gets stronger as he gets madder/he gets stronger as his hair grows. I'd say anyone with static strength pays homage to Herc, anyone who's strength increases with a specific catalyst pays it to Sampson.

Actually no, already in the PC days but back then you had so many writers and Supermans strength was all over the place.

Post crisis? No. In 86/87 Byrne showed it too. And what McAbe said.
