Chanting (a form of meditation) has helped me a great deal. I have people tell me that I'm an easy going person now, but before you would have found me high strung.

Sorry, can't help it, but...Duh!

One should also keep in mind that the point of meditation is not to get better at meditating, but to get better at living. And to a large extent, that means Not adopting a materialistic, narcissistic, hypercompetitive, badass-is-cool, violence-is-the-answer lifestyle.

However, the idea of meditation has been demonized and misunderstood by the west for so long, that I am not suppressed that some people are just now beginning to discover meditation. Also, you don’t have to be a Buddhist to meditate or even chant.

Oh, really !!! After intense scientific research someone discover the obvious ! laughing

Next step, will be proving that hitting the wall with your head really makes your head hurts.

In some circles it is well received. I was speaking generally of the religious community (I know, maybe I should have said that). I know people who if you mention meditation or anything to do with eastern (with the exception of food) they will assume you are talking about something evil.
