Boba's Challenge:

Someone (mebbe Xizor) pays Boba Fett to assassinate Darth Sidious.
Does Boba succeed? Sidious does not know that anyone has paid for his removal, and Boba has an infinite window in which to strike. Sidious can be killed from a distance, and the body does not need to be recovered. This is sidious and Boba during the time of ANH, and ESB.

Boba wouldn't except, unless maybe the price was really high... like several million credits. I seriously doubt Boba knows that Palpatine is a Sith Lord, let alone the most powerful Sith Lord ever so he might try. If he did get Palpatine in his sights, from a distance, Palpatine would probably sense it and block the lasers with the Force, and surely with all the guards around Boba would be lucky to escape let alone kill Palpatine, especially if Darth Vader was present.

I would say this never would happen because he knew if he did succeed he would be hunted throughout the galaxy by the dominating government and one darth vader. But if he did accept I don't see him having a realistic chance of killing him. The only way he could have a shot would be by using some superweapon the emperor's location or something similar to the sorts. But Sidious would probably survive as he did on endor and in DE then Sidious would have his revenge.

I don't see it that way, actually. Of course, Boba will most probably fail, I am referring to the 'he would be hunted around the galaxy' sentence. I doubt it. Darth Vader would see it as an opportunity and would take on the role of Dark Lord of the Sith and take control of the Galactic Empire, his secret apprentice no longer needed to be kept as a secret.

Perhaps. But think of it like this: if Boba Fett succeeded in killing his vastly more intelligent and more potent master, Vader certainly wouldn't sit around and wait for someone else to potentially hire the bounty hunter to assassinate himself. Besides, Palpatine's soul would just return to its repository on Byss, and then a galactic-wide manhunt would ensue.

Then again, if Karen Traviss writes this story, Boba will either pose a significant challenge or kick the shit out of Palpatine unaided.

Yes, Vader knows what Fett is capable of and would indeed be cautious.

Oh, of course, I posted my opinion supposing the Dark Lord wouldn't return.

Karen Traviss would be stupid enough to try that, yes.

That thought struck my mind at first, too, but I read somewhere (I think it was in The New Essential Guide to Characters) that Boba once took out an entire Imperial Base by himself, and it was considered his greatest achievement, or something like that. He has also faced Vader in one on one combat twice so I doubt he would be afraid of being hunted since he wasn't worried about facing Vader, or what would happen should he kill Vader.

A lack of fear doesn't imply superiority. In Dark Lord: the Rise of Darth Vader, Vader tells the Emperor that "he doesn't fear death". That doesn't mean that he is somehow on par or equal to Sidious because he doesn't fear his master's retribution (we later found out that he was bluffing).

I know, I'm not saying that Boba is on par with Sidious, I'm saying that he probably wouldn't be afraid of the aftermath of him killing Sidious, if he did manage to kill him.

well, it was pretty much accepted that no one in the galaxy was a match for the Sith Lord in combat at this time (one on one,) so i thought i'd give boba the element of surprise. I thought of him as taking the emperor out while in transit (imperial shuttles being a PATHETIC ship for the emporer to constantly fly around in) or else snipe the dude, or poison him, or something. (though poison prob. wouldnt' work against a force sensitive and all that )
i would give boba a chance, fueled mainly because of Jacen's comments in LOTF, about how an assassin probably has the best chance of taking him out, and how close to killing him Alema Rar came with the poision dart. (and would have succeeded if not for Lumiya)

and i can see him taking the job, if the money was right, (and that was being assumed) a contract always seemed to be a contract to boba, did we ever see him refuse a job because of the subject matter?)

different subject, but i don't want to open another thread just to ask: what book is it, or series in which the emperor returns and luke serves him for awhile? i've checked all the novels i've ran into, and haven't foudn that story line yet, though it is referred to repeatedly on here, so i'd like to read it.

I don't understand the hate Karin Traviss gets. The Clone Commando novels were excellent.

People dislike her preference of Boba Fett and the Mandalorians. She makes them seem too good, in peoples opinion. For instance, she had a lone Mando kneecap Jacen, and claimed that Fett had 'killed more Jedi than anyone else'.
I don't, but there you go.

i don't hate her, it seems like she kinda reigns in the power of the jedi, which is completely overblown by a lot of writers. If she can put self-professed warriors closer to the level of force users, it has a balancing affect on the SW Universe i think, doesn't disrupt it. and thanks darthsith, i'll have to read that sometime, (kinda disappointed that its a comic though)

Karen traviss ruined boba fett. she made him too human, not only that she makes all mandalorians on par with jedi wich is BS.

but on the main topic i think that if the emperor where in transit on an imperial shuttle i could see boba taking him out.
