Even the strongest Dragon Ball character is a glass canon. In terms of energy output, Saiyans are powerful.
In terms of speed, overall durability, or strength, they have serious holes. I mean, the Galactic Patrol beats Goku and Vegeta sily with speed and some space stun guns. They aren't busting planets, let alone solar systems or galaxies.

Pre Crisis Superman is far too fast for any Saiyan, he could easily beat even Gogeta down before he can amp his defenses, just like the Galactic Patrol got Goku and Vegeta.
