Scythe's Transdoodlers!!

Alrighty, so here’s my collection that started 15 years ago. I’ll start off with a basic layout of telling you the character’s name, what it transformers into and it’s class, make and any notes that should go along with it. Thanks, enjoy and if you wish to see an additional image of any character let me know and I’ll PM you a pic of it personally taken.

Liking that Masterpiece Starscream.

I cant make out your Aerialbots.
But if they are G1, then Airraid is an F15, not an F12.

Thanks, being in America I prefer the cartoon-colored American MP Starscream rather than the MP 'Greenscream' that's available in Japan. Even though that one's pretty cool too.

And no, sadly my Aerialbots are part of the universe line which was done by Hasbro. Air-Raid is stated to be an F12.

Cool, thanks. I honestly stray away from G1. I respect to no end and love the toys, but I prefer to leave the G1 toys to the people of that generation if that makes sense. I'm too young to fully appreciate it. I'm more in tune with the zings and ka-pows of newer toys to hog all the glory of G1 toys that have a high nostalgia value. Not sure if I'm making sense here...

yeah that makes sense. I was three years old when the G1 cartoon started so it instantly hooked me in.

as far as articulation and what not, the newer generation toys blow g1 out of the water, even beast wars blew g1 out of the water and beast wars is more than 12 years old.

but for me I prefer G1 over all the others due to the characterization of each figure. There's 20 different optimus primes and 20 megatrons but they all come from one original source...and all the characterizations borrow from that source.

things like the jets (starscream, thundercracker, etc.) soundwave, the autobot cars, they had alternate modes that everyone would recognize.

i guess i go more for the characterization than the actual figure features. otherwise yeah i wouldn't even touch g1 with a 20 foot pole, but as it is there's somethin about looking at Omega Supreme or Sky Lynx, Megatron, Optimus Prime, Predaking, Soundwave, etc. that make me go damn, that's a really unique figure.

but yeah your reasons make sense, and our personal reasons define what we prefer, so it's all good.

Haha, glad you made sense of my post. When I grew up, I was barely old enough to catch up on late G2 so that's why I own a G2 Prime. He's great imo! Simplistic, very easy to transform.

I honestly love 'bots who are easy to transform, as a kid I hated all the "waiting" for others to transform whereareas G1-G2 toys were practically done in two steps.

That's why I love Scourge/Black Convoy from Robot in Disguise, he's a repaint of Laser Prime, so he's practically ready to go after 3 steps of transformation.

So you never owned the Dinobots, Jetfire, Metroplex or even Jazz, Hound, Mirage or Bluestreak, one could surmise from that statement..?

The Changing the Aerialbots or anyother of the special teams into their collective gestault robot mode, was way more than two steps.

'Cause that was definitely not two step transforming.

Bumblebee/the minicars, Blaster, Soundwave's cassette, sure.
No argument there.

But it is a misconception that G1 was always simplistic.
Even the seekers were pretty fiddly for novices for a while.

Notice how I didnt even mention the triple changers.... shifty

G2 though, the molds that were non-g1 were a bit more simplistic, from what I remember.

The transformations on figures that did it well, was what they were all about for me... Having been into Star Wars toys before Transformers, you could appreciate both modes thing along with the puzzle element that TFs offered.

I cant relate to TFs that either don't transform or transform too shitly to impress.

EG: I dont care how good a G1 prime plaster bust is, when there is the MP prime. Gotta have the transform. smile

Now you can have cool transforms for shit characters/sucky designs, which also is a fail in my eyes too.

So its pursuit of the ever elusive balance, I guess.
I cited MP Prime, because that, to my mind strikes the balance really well.

The few G1 toys I used to own, Prime, Magnus and Grimlock were each simplistic in thei own sense that snapped together in a matter of seconds, as compared to current 'bots and several Beast Wars toys that had nearly 40 steps.

Don't go near Masterpiece Megatron, that motherfukker is THE HARDEST TF to transform in the history of the Transformers concept and product line, IMO.

It took me well over an hour and 20 minutes to transform.

G1 toys are intuitive to transform...you transform them once and you basically have a memory "imprint" of how to do it. Transforming Trypticon from t rex to city mode is very easy-it's just putting in the accessories that takes time.

The triple changers aren't hard to transform...blitzwing can be done in literally 10 seconds between all three modes if you really want to be fast. Astrotrain is even less time.

The only ones that aren't that simple are the six-changers, sixshot and quickswitch. I need the instructions for that, but even still a few times and it's not that hard.

hmm actually i'm debating whether to start a thread like yours, but just with the G1 figures i have, so people can compare/contrast whatever between the toys of the past few years and the toys of 24 years ago

Exactly. That's what makes a Transformer.

Go right ahead, I'd support it. It'll bring traffic back in here and it's a personal collection that you're showcasing.

And yet they still manage to suck. stick out tongue

I think Grimlock was actually more intricate than Prime or Magnus.
Certainly cooler.

Sludge and Snarl were more complicated. Never a problem always fun. Slag was a piece of piss though. Never had a Swoop.
