ha yea he is a massive rip off supes, the only big differences are that they gave sentry light powers and he isnt an alien and he get powers from serums,oo and that he just goes from fight to fight without taking pride in what he does, like supes
supes and sentry are nothing alike as characters. the similarities in costume and base powerset are purely ironic, as sentry was intended to be marvel's superman (ie a quintessential representative hero).
cuz sentry is the "clay feet" concept x 1,000,000.
They are tremendously alike, in motivation, in the 'holding the weight of the world on your shoulders', in the 'deciding who lives and dies' factor of which, Superman by powerset can hear/see every disaster on the planet.. he chooses which to go to. Who lives and dies. Sentry has cloc calculate for him. Superman does it in his head. Costume is alike, and very classic. Every version of Superman dates/marries a lady with an L name, whether it be Lois, Lana, Lorana, or in Sentry's case... Linda. Big Blue Boyscout, Golden Guardian of Good...Both have a Superdog. Need I go on?

You haven't been following Sentry very closely. You only have the superficial view. There is a massive amount of mystery about Sentry and his "state of being" that still isn't resolved. There's still a good chance that the Sentry is insane.

I haven't picked up the last two yet, but I've read up to it. Obviously he's going to have character quirks otherwise it's plagerism.. The rip-off-ness[is that a word? lol.] is very vast though, as I've pointed out.

Y'know, I've REALLY got to find out how to post more than one pic in a post.

all those similiarities you mention are superficial, and in my opinion purely for irony for the reasons i said earlier. the actual characters are each opposite and equal: superman is totally representative of the metaheroic epic larger than life "a light to lead them" theme of DC. sentry is totally representative of marvel's "clay feet" paradigm.
I think in a way, Sentry was meant to resemble Superman in so many ways. Here's what I think:
Robert Reynolds was someone who loved comic books and drawing. And for most of his life, he was a nobody, a loser; sort of like Peter Parker, but with even more problems. He was picked on as a kid, was sick all the time, and gained psychological issues. It's very possible that, during this time, Robert fantasized about becoming so much more, possibly someone like Superman (Supes may not exist in the Marvel Universe but some Marvel characters have mentioned him before, implying that he exists as a comic book hero).
When he finally becomes a superhero of his own, Robert also becomes someone people can look up to; he becomes a somebody. When he becomes the Sentry, his (possible) infatuation with Superman and other superheroes, may have been what led him to dress so much like an old-fashion hero (cape, tights, giant 'S' etc). And since Robert is schizophrenic, it’s also possible that he partly sees himself as “Superman.”
The Sentry seems to be “Superman” created in Robert Reynolds’s image. His powers are supposedly solar-based, despite the fact that he got his power from a formula. He goes around saving the day, not necessarily because he feels its his responsibility to “bear the weight of the world on his shoulders,” but because he HAS to keep being a somebody; he has to keep being a “Superman.”
This seems to be where the resemblances end and the differences begin. While the Sentry was (probably) created in Robert's image, he seems flawed due to Robert's shattered mind. He doesn't try to figure out how to defeat a villain without killing (as shown with his confrontation with Attuma) and, unlike Superman, he ENJOYS being a superhero with the weight on his shoulders more than anything else. If Superman were to be given a choice by a powerful entity(let's say by God) between giving up his powers or the world is destroyed, he'd give up his powers without hesitation. However, if Sentry were to be placed in that very scenario. he would probably not find the decision nearly as easy, since giving up his powers would mean going back to being a nobody. Clark Kent is someone who, had he never gained powers to begin with, would most likely lead a very happy life anyway (possibly even happier than he is as Superman). Robert, on the other hand, would still be as miserable and fragile as he was before the Sentry.
Also, various times in his current series, Robert has flashbacks that resemble old comic book panels and even when Robert Reynolds (aka the Void) asks Sentry, "Are you faster than a speeding bullet?" In some of Robert's flashbacks, he's shown talking in old fashion, frequently saying things like "Gosh" and whatnot. Even in his room at the end of Sentry #6, there are several pictures of heroes like the Hulk and the Fantastic Four. All this just adds to my suspicion that Robert based his superhero life off of old comic books.
Anyway, that's just my theory. Jenkins apparently doesn't seem to be avoiding the fact that Sentry resembles Superman so much and my guess is that that's because the Sentry was supposed to be similar in his own little way due to Robert's fascination with comic books. The whole thing IS confusing as anything, but that's what I have concluded so far.
AHHH SENTRY IS AMAZING, i went to the comic store and bought all 6 sentry issues that have come out, along with planet hulk#1! good story line very interesting, CAN NOT wait for sentry part 7 and 8
