Why couldn't they keep the title Supreme Power? To distinguish them from the Earth-712 group?

Probably because the first volume was more of an origin story for some of the characters and pretty much Hyperion was the Suprem Power. In this volume we see more super people and the team, The Squadron,is formed.

I think it picked up recently, although i was previously wishing it had finished on issue 18. I think thats one of the best endings to an arc, in recent memory. As i recently stated on the 300 thread, it would make an EPIC finish to a feature film .... Im looking forward to the Hyperion vrs Redstone rematch although the story on the whole doesn't really seem to be going anywhere. I miles prefer the Ultimate comic, which has a simillar theme. Maybe JMS is stalling until Ultimate Power begins, I hope so anyway
