The Authority issue 1

Has probably the worst case of decompression I've seen in a while.

and the art while not bad had this weird annoying blurry effect.

well at least the first issue of Midnighter kicked ass.smile

Authority #1 was utter crap.

I'm waiting to buy the collection....can't stand that de-compressed nonsense.

Also, I'm changing this to general Authority discussion....we don't need one for each issue.

I've been contemplating picking up The Authority, but from what I've heard now probably isn't the best time.

...plenty of their back issue are great. I particularly love Volume 2.

I didn't think it was crap erm

It was very slow and basicly went nowhere

However, thats just Morrison's style

Bendis does stupid pointless arcs

Millar does kickass fightscenes

F.Miller makes characters either douchebags or ***sies

Ellis makes crazy Sci-Fi stuff

and Morrison, makes slow and seemingly pointless stories stick out tongue

laughing out loud

I think this arc will read great in TPB format. Decompressed stories on a bi-monthly comic don't really float my boat though.

Gene Ha is an excellent artist though.

Panel #1: a foot, clouded in shadow

Panel #2: pans out to show the entire leg

Panel 3: pans out to show the torso

4: the entire silhouette, still shrouded in darkness

5: same still shot as #4, for emphasis

6: see panel #5

7: same shot, but a narrator, in a box of text, pronounces "It's been a bad day for the universe"

8: close-up of the foot again. "A real bad day"

9: close-up of the face, still in darkness. "The kind of day you hope never comes

Repeat for 20 pages. no expression

...

That's decompressed story-telling.

Yeah, it's really about using art to tell a story rather than words. 99% of the time it ends up taking 5 or 6 issues to tell a story that could have been done in 2 or 3.
