I was surprised we didn't have a thread for this already.
Wanted is a six-issue creator-owned comic book miniseries, written by Mark Millar with art by J. G. Jones. It was published by Top Cow in 2003 and 2004 as part of Millarworld. It features an amoral protagonist who discovers he is the heir to a career as a super-villainous assassin in a world where such villains have secretly taken control of the planet
The movie, though, in my opinion, was abysmal, especially after reading the series itself. Mark Millar, the creator, views Hollywood as a "fun hobby", so evidently he wasn't super serious about keeping to the main storyline.
There's a couple quotes I love, a couple characters I love, and a couple costumes I love. Mainly Killer's (Wesley Gibson's).
Lol... Millar claimed that Eminem pleaded for the role, as a joke. Eminem was pissed.
And yeah, Fox was obviously modeled after Halle.
Another note...
In the movie, [SPOILER - highlight to read]: when they're talking about who "Cross" has killed, I'm pretty sure they say something about how he just killed "Rictus"..
Also, in the last scene, [SPOILER - highlight to read]: the nametag for the cubicle beside decoy-Wesley reads "J.G. Millar", obviously referencing Mark Millar and J.G. Jones.
If you're being serious, the movie was decent up to a point. Then it failed, because by that point it was relying completely on its own plot and not on Millar's writing.
thats what i liked about it...it wasnt trying to be like the first hulk movie...meaning acting like its smarter than continuity...they didnt spend the whole movie making him all emo and introspectivy....sure it was a strong departure from the comics but i think it stood quite well on its own
I just watched the movie. IMO On it's own it was at best "meh" if you switch off your brain and when it's compared to the comic, the comic is about a thousand times superior
It surpassed all expectations. One of the highest opening weekends of any R-rated movie of all time. Hell, even Wall-E only made a few million more, and it was rated G for christ's sake.
I'm not saying it shouldn't have branched off, because what's easy to accept for your average comic reader, might leave your average movie watcher going "huh?".
Things like villains taking over the world in secret, and a character composed entirely of feces are things that are easy to comprehend for a comic reader with time to take it all in, but can leave a newcomer watching the movie in the dust.
That being said... it was still far inferior to the comics.
