What really bugged me *spoilers*
Is that the crystal skull is reaveled to be an alien skull fairly earlier on in the movie.
If they would have held on to that until the end, or when Ox held it up to the shadow, it would have been more of a reveal to audience.
Its like if they showed bruce willis die at the begining of sixth sense, and you knew he was dead the whole time.

Another analogy might be that KOTCS Alien Skull reveal situation was like Raiders having the ark blowing it's load and melting the nazis just after the boulder escape then just showing Indy packing and dusting the Ark and shipping it for the rest of the movie..
