this is realy about his knowledge of the sword that he gave to merry....that was used to kill the witchking...
ok...raven found this out...Raven is cool
How do you think that he could of known? What kind of power is this...I think that he is sauron's equal...if not MORE powerfull than sauron...does he have the power of forseight?
The Tokien Bestiary said he is a Maiar. Tolkien Author of the Century said that he is the anthropomorhpic personification of the old forest. The creatures on Caradhras that caused the snowstorms and avalanches must be like demented Bombadils.
In some places of the world, it is indeed said that Bombadil is a Maia, and some sources say he is a Maia of Yavanna........and that Goldberry is not his 'lady' in the sense of his wife, but that she is his daughter.............
I don't know about his foreknowledge of the sword, but it wouldn't surprise me: Bombadil's been in Middle-earth long, as he says, that he's seen the forest sprout, and begin to fade-so surely, he adapted to the earth in a way that was more profound............................
Yeah I've heard that before: Yavanah and Goldberry......could be true...
*miss' s-b's posts*
But what about the forsight...why don't you think he could see ahead?
or a beter question...why do I think he can?
I think so because of the sword...the sword he gave merry...(sidenote: does merry's sword have any special significance compared to any other sword?, if it does than tom def has some sort of future seeing powers...maybee?*shrugs*)
Yavanah...and goldberry do have sims...
a personification...? thats a good idea also...He is the forest...like treebeard IS Fangorn Forest...Tom IS the old forest...erm...posibilites there also...
Bombadil lives as long as the forest stands. the only reason they didn't give the ring to him is that Bombadil cares about nothing other then the bare minimum... free from coruption and want. Gandalf and him are best friends and Tom is the keeper of all knowledge... Before Gandalf leaves in the end he spends likea month telling Tom everything that occured.
Gender: Unspecified Location: bonny aberdeenshire! home again :)
if tom is maia, then he is sauronz equal, or started out that way. sauron is a maia, like gandalf, tom, and the other wizatds, but sauron could have corrupted/altered himself and his powers through dark magic things...

"In the year of our Lord 1314, patriots of Scotland, starving and outnumbered, charged the fields at Bannockburn. They fought like warrior poets. They fought like Scotsmen. And won their freedom."
I think that were we to ask Tolkien (and get an answer ), then I think he'd say that Tom was neither greater or lesser in power than Sauron, but not really equal either. If Sauron was on Tom's land, then I don't think he could do anything to Tom if he tried with all his power, but Tom couldn't do anything to Sauron, either. Tom's power has sway over his land and nothing else, but similarly, no power has sway over him in his land. That's why the Ring had no effect on him; it was a foreign power, and thus held no sway. And also, I don't think he has much (if any) power that he could use to fight Sauron, nor do I think he would use such power if he could. Nothing but his land concerns him, so Tom would probably treat Sauron as a guest. Outside his land, Tom has no power at all, and I'm not sure if he could even exist outside his land at all. So I don't think their powers are really all that comparable, because all power (in Tom's land) has no effect on Tom, so not even an army of Balrogs could probably hurt him. The problem with giving Tom the One Ring is that if Sauron walked up to him and asked for it, Tom would probably give it to him. He has no care for the events outside in that respect, and he would probably forget why he even had the Ring in the first place.
Well, that's my two cents. Thanks for listening to my rambling.
