Thanosquest Redux
We all know that Thanos used a combination of power, skill and intelligence to gather the Infinity Gems. But could anyone else have done the same thing? What gems do each of them get before failing? Note: They don't have to follow the same order Thanos did, and Thanos did use some gems to help him get other gems.

Reed Richards
Batman
Black Panther
Superman
Merged Hulk
Apocalypse
Kang
High Evolutionary
Thor
Loki
Lex Luthor
Darkseid
The feats
Soul Gem: In-betweener
Power Gem: Champion
Time Gem: Gardener
Space Gem: Runner
Reality Gem: Collector
Mind Gem: Grandmaster
None of them are powerful enough to beat Champion so the power gem won't be taken first.
The Grandmaster would outsmart any of them so the mind gem is safe.
In-betweener would squash any of the participants. Ditto the Runner.
Best bet would be Darkseid or High Evolutionary starting with the Collector or Gardener. And with either the Time or Reality Gem, they'd have a chance against the rest.
Agree for the most part...I'd replace Luthor with the High Evolutionary...Luthor would probably have a damb difficult time....he just doesn't have the necessary combination of brains/power to get that far..

Loki could do it. He doesn't need to destroy Champion to get the first one (just steal it somehow), and he's tricky as hell. Magic is always handy for oddball stuff like this, even if he can't take down guys like Thor. Besides, he's fairly powerful, and can travel through dimensions without much trouble if he needs to do so to find any of them.

I think the order in which Thanos obtained the gems is kinda important, and collecting them in any other order would lead to failure. None of them have anything that the Collector would want to trade his Reality Gem for. Matching wits with Grandmaster, to begin with, would lead to a loss. Beating the Runner, or even locating him, would prove impossible. I don't think any of them have the raw power to free the In-betweener from his prison, and only a handful of them would be able to travel there anyway. Which leaves Champion and Gardener. Obtaining the Time Gem would be the easiest to accomplish but still, Grandmaster is no slouch in the power department - Thanos only won by using the Power Gem he already had to add more power to the Time Gem.
