i have a question about Flash against the cosmic gamblers???

What type of deal did flash make in order to end the bets made by the cosmic gamblers? That part when he felt like he had a million legs, was it b/c of the people running back on earth? Also was this before the Zoom came along and Flash was able to acquire the speed formula b/c i just figured he could have used that as well instead of letting krakkyl sacrifice himself.
