Thousands of years ago, now in the Earth dimension, the Bloodgem, was one of many gems brought by unidentified extra-terrestrial scientists to the planet Kree-Lar. Scientists on Kree-Lar had discovered an immense stone of tremendous power, which they had split in half and dubbed the Alpha and Omega stones. The energies released in the split killed thousands, but drew the attention of more advanced races, who came to Kree-Lar to explore these energies. The races each brought their own artifacts/stones/gems, seeking a common link. They found that link, and the artifacts were all discovered to be geological survivors of the Big Bang, remnants of the previous universe. The gems were joined together into the Lifestone tree, and their power was used to advance the evolutionary traits of eight chosen representatives of their races, who became the Chosen Eight of Fate (occasionally referred to as the Guardians of the Galaxy). These Eight protected the galaxy for two hundred years until eventually breaking up. The Lifestones were taken from Kree-Lar to prevent intergalactic pirates from stealing them. However, the mission was discovered and the ark carrying the Lifestones was attacked. Its warp drive created an implosion, which created a fissure in space, thrusting the remnants of the arc and fragments of the Lifestones to the far corners of the galaxy. One spatial anomaly opened on the fringes of Earth's solar system, and a number of the gems/fragments arrived on Earth. The Bloodgem was one of these.

Alpha/Omega stone - The Stones produce and absorb Power and Energy in different forms. They can empower beings and objects. The Alpha Stone seemed to be a big emerald, while the Omega Stone was more like a big ruby and could vary its dimensions from 5cm to 2 meters of diameter. The Basilisk has enhanced human strength, durability, and reflexes. His skin was tougher and thicker than normal, and he was especially resistant to great heats (including that of molten rock). He can survive for extended periods without food or water. His body generated microwave-related energy, which he can emit at will through his eyes for a variety of effects, including a force beam that heated up an intense vortex of air beneath him. This force beam was capable of exerting a force of 1,500 pounds per square and could lift him into the air (a maximum of 400 feet high, at a maximum speed of 250 mph) when he trained it on the ground. His eye-blasts could accelerate or decelerate molecular motion, causing surfaces to freeze and be covered with coatings of ice, or to reach a high temperature of up to 3, 000 degrees Farenheit. The eye-blasts could also be used for stunning, repulsing, and molecular transformation (to a limited degree). His intelligence was augmented by the transformation. After he absorbed the Omega Stone powers, he could also levitate in the air without using his force beam, cause volcanic risings and eruptions, tremors and earthquakes, equal the Thing's strength (Class 90), transport himself extremely rapidly through lava and teleport (see comments)), and fly on pieces of rocks. His intellect was even further augmented by the Omega Stone. His body sometimes emitted heat.
Blue Diamond stone - The shards of giant blue diamond found in Antartica imbedded themselves in Professor Elton Morrow's skin, somehow giving him superhuman strength and diamond-hard skin. Elton dubbed himself the Blue Diamond and fought Nazi spies--for a short time.
Prism stone �Dr. Spectrum's power prism enables him to fly and create objects of some unknown form of energy. He can create a force field around himself in order to withstand enormous concussive impacts and can use the prism to allow himself to withstand the vacuum of space.
Ka stone � sphinx used the ka stone, an ancient jewel of unknown origin, apparently sentient, which enabled its wearer to manipulate vast amounts of mystical energy in various forms. He could project the mystical energy as beams of concussive force, light, or heat. He could channel the stone's energies into his own body, augmenting his physical strength. The Ka stone also enabled the Sphinx to "read" minds and to retain all the information he thereby acquired. Using the Ka stone he could drain vast quantities of energy from other sources into himself, further augmenting his superhuman powers. The Sphinx could also use the Ka stone to enable himself to fly unaided through an atmosphere or through the vacuum of space unharmed. The stone gave him extraordinarily high resistance to physical injury and enabled him to exist indefinitely without oxygen.
The Sphinx could temporarily deplete most of the Ka stone's available energy through use. He restored its power through meditation, usually surrounded by an energy-pyramid, which he generated around himself.
The Ka stone, when whole, granted the Sphinx immortality.
Star of Capistan is an immense ruby, allegedly larger than any other on Earth or any other planet. It is sentient, sensitive to human brainwaves on a global or perhaps even cosmic scale. Imbued with a supreme will and a devilish drive all its own, the Star seeks an end to conflict and an absolute harmony among all men's minds.
Its primary limitation is its immobility, and it must take a human host to act as its spokesman and protector. Upon contacting a human, it transforms that being into the Red Rajah, enabling it to affect others. Normally it cannot affect others without contact or via a host, however, it can seduce those who approach it, encouraging them to touch it and become its host.
Contained, the Star is an incredible force for good or evil. It serves as the "key" to the Cult of the Unliving Four. Unleashed, it is a threat almost beyond comparison.
Those trained to believe in harmony or in the greater good over individual rights are especially susceptible to its will.
Xoor the God-Jewel Xorr possessed immense, incalculable power, on par with a being such as Galactus. It could siphon energy from other large sources of power, such as planets and stars. It could not survive a nova explosion. Xorr's crystalline composition apparently possessed inherent electromagnetic properties.
