 is snape really evil? or is he just hiding something!

hey all i just read something about severus snape. people say that he is pure evil and works for voldemort. he exclaimed that he was doing undercover work for the dark lord. But is he really doing that? I read that snape may be actually hiding something from voldemort that he heard one night about the prophecy!!! He heard the first part and told voldemort but.... what if he was hiding the second part from him? well in an article i read it said that he was indeed holding some info from voldemort. so.... is snape really evil or not?
