I'm not so sure about that. The cannon causes the targets own power to turn on itself and propel itself through random, infinite dimensions. The more powerful the target, the greater the effect.
If Reed gets to shoot first and the blast lands, Thanos may be tossed around indefinitely by his own power. He wouldn't die (as the abstracts didn't), but he'd be in no position to mount an attack.
I say draw. That cannon was a plot device if there ever was one.

It's not that exotic, but it is awesome.
The weapon was actually desinged to defeat a being no greater than Galactus:

They don't exactly get blasted indefinitely through infinite dimensions, but they do get blown into other dimensions from the one they were struck.
I must add,
the weapon only worked on LT because Reed shot the Canon into a concentration of Power that was being exercised by LT & the Cosmics.
Had Reed blasted LT directly, I doubt it he would even notice.
In order for Reed to repeat this feat.
He would have to wait for Thanos to strike, then by some miraculous chance have the time to blast his Canon into Thanos' attack.
That is, if Thanos decides to fire Energy slower than the speed of thought thus enabling Reed with a chance.
Thanos could simply use an endless number of different maneuvers that would not involve wielding Energy at all.
Like simply willing Reed and his Canon to disappear.
