KC Superman was battling Captain Marvel and was still holding back, just because he wanted to save Billy's life.
That Captain Marvel was an all out beast once he was unleash on the battlefield. Even worse, he started fighting Kal, Kal was already engage in battle for an X amount of time, where as CM was fresh.
Marvel unleash his lighting bolt to kill Kal, they hurt him true but they were mostly a nuisance to him. In the end all the Shamzam's blast did was too make Kal ears bleed, and when he got serious, he moved fast enough to cover Billy's mouth. He could have ended the fight right there if he wanted too.
After all those ordeals, Kal took a blast that killed most of the fighters on the field, all that did was to piss him off. Going by narration, Kal wasn't even going at full strength.

There was also the magic sword that cut him easily just from touching him. The Marvel showing helps, but there's other precedent for it. We don't have a ton of showings for him, so there needs to be some extrapolation, so our estimation isn't going to be perfect. But I think it's safe to say that weakness does exist.
That was because he was cut by a sword "That can shave electrons from atoms". That would cut nearly every herald level being, even Gog was cut by it. KC superman literally punched third world Gog's magic lightning back to him and survived an eyeblast from him unscathed.
