What would you do to improve the comic book business?
Some of my suggestions:
1. make comics 60 pages rather than 30
2. have fewer core titles so as not to confuse consumers (ie. there's so many different superman titles, spiderman titles, it gets confusing for an average person)
3. enforce some consistency in the quality of art

Writers and Artist are signed on for atleast 20 issues, instead of them doing 5 and the rest of the run sucks.
Have less stupid ads in the comics

They could at least put all the ads at the beginning or the end, instead of having one every other page

And then no one would pay any attention to them. That's the point of advertisement. To put it someplace someone will see it.

If advertisement didn't work, corporations wouldn't shell out so much cash for it.
I agree, I hate advertisements. However, they work. They aren't going anywhere.

This is a great suggestion.
Also, there are too many different versions of the same character in numerous cases.

I have never even glanced at an add. I don't know about anyone else.

I always skip em - I don't think advertising has ever (consciously, at least?) provoked me to buy something.
Fact of the matter is, though, obviously the ads increase sales enough to cover the ads themselves and then some - or they wouldn't exist. Profit's all that matters, after all.

Well try actually buying a comic from the store instead of downloading them for free, and you might get to see an add or two.

you realise that the kinds of comics you're talking about would take more than a month to bring out?
i'll take two 30 pagers a month apart over a 60 page comic i have to wait 2 months for...
fewer core titles is good in theory, but try fitting the x-men into one or two books per month and seeing how well they do...
superman has two books (within the dcu), everything else is elseworlds, so to speak...
also, moving...

How about have artists chosen by fan voting? that way, crappy artists will have to find another job while the good ones get rewarded

perhaps 60 was too much, but make it 45 pages long.
and have CONCRETE deadlines, so comics are always on time...there's no reason for delays

I don't see the need for longer comics. All you'd do is drive up the price.

the deadlines i'd agree on... too many comics get bogged down by delays...
