The serious comic fan thread!
As the old beach boys song states "I get around". I truly like the KMC comics board sometimes...... I sometimes find things out I didn't know. All to often though, KMC comics is not really about comics. It's about power levels, the latest gimmick or who can own who. The fans here are also divided into a few groups. The kid who maybe has a favourite comic/hero, the social fan who learns all his comic information through the web on boards and illegal downloads. The comic buyer who loves and collects comics and finally the knowledgable long term comic buyer who loves not only comics but the history around them. KMC has a lot of Kids and Social fans a few comic buyers, but far less longterm fans than any other board I frequent.
I would like this to be a serious thread for the serious fan. Where we can discuss the history of comics. The creators and the obscure. If the moderation let this thread stay open, I believe it can be the first thread on KMC that could be almost like, at least sometimes the editorial threads on the more sophisticated comic boards. We could have comic reviews here. If anyone is willing to do them. Interesting items of information and history of comics debates.
I mean we could start with things like the new version of Eisners Spirit as a film etc.
Who's with me and would like KMC to be a respected comics board. With some cred rather than the place to go for scans and pmming people about bit torrent sites?

Serious stuff that you mentioned gets debated in here quite often anyway just in a lighthearted approach. The only divides are when people try and stamp their own opinions on everyone else and start talking smack with no proof to back them up so they dig their own graves in a sense.
It's good that your thinking about trying to improve the experience for the users though in different ways

Part of the fun of comics in my opinion should be a love of the tradition of comics. From the pulp roots of people like Lovecraft, Wylie, Stappleton, Rice-Burroughs, Howard etc. on to the likes of Siegal and Scuster, Finger and Kane, Eisner, Kirby, Lee, Ditko, Lawrence and forward.
They should realise Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman would not have been as creative without the comic scene of the late 70's in the U.K. spearheaded by 2000AD.
They should know why Marvel crashed in the nineties or why Jim Shooter split with the other founders of Valiant.
Realise the links between Philip Wylie and Superman and the Hulk. Acknowledge the role of archetypes in the DC mythos. Know many comics are morearn parables. Realise all continuity is apocrypha.
Comics should not be about whose more powerfull than who, but instead what makes a good story and where that story came from.

But generally alot of us know the history and if someone doesn't there is no rule stopping them from making a thread to ask about it and our opinions. I understand your point that maybe we all maybe focus on a narrow view when theirs a whole lot more of the comic spectrum we could talk about.
Maybe it's just up to users to start making these threads so people will come in and talk about more than the usual upcoming story arc from DC/Marvel and talk about the companies and insipirations for the stories we read like 'build it and they'll come kind' of thing i dunno.

Tell me about your history of comics and your illegal downloads if you respect the medium you won't do both. Remember Marvel went bankrupt in the 90's.
How many years have you been buying comics?
