I have an old comic from about the mid 80's where Thor fights the Crusader. He is lasted as class 25 strength and carries a sword. Crusader stabbed Thor and Thor was hunched over badly hurt, and Thor's woman friend (don't know her name but her brother is the guy who guards the rainbow bridge to Asgard, Sif is his name?) teleports him back to Asgard, and they have to go interrupt a meeting that Odin is in because Thor is passed out and she thinks he is about to die!!
Odin heals him, then Thor goes back and beats the crap out of the Crusader. I thought it was pretty hilarious for the mightly Thor to take such a butt-whooping, even though I like him normally. It was kinda funny to see all his usual "nay, thee, etc." talk going on and then a class 25 guy shut him up with a sword through the belly

On a more serious note, Spiderman vs. Doc Octopus was to me about as suspensful and fun to watch, ongoing set of battles as there has been in comics. Spidey would always be swinging along, his sense of humor going and saying something goofy, then his spider-sense would start tingling, then Doc Oc's tentacles would crash through something nearby and spidey would just get out of the way in the nick of time. Spidey's superior reactions and speed were countered perfectly by Doc Oc's higher number of appendages and increased reach advantage and climbing ablity, plus their personalities were so different. It was almost like they had fun fighting each other, even though you were always afraid for Spidey because you knew that Doc Oc may not hold back if he got spidey in his tentacles, depending on his mood at the time.
Man, and with those kind of fights you didn't have this abstract power level crap, with supposedly planets or galaxies being destroyed or whatever stuff that normal people can't relate too at all.
Ummm,,,Iron Man took a beating and it was a one sided fight until Tony tricked CLOC and saved his own life.

i agree with this guy, all this Beyonder wipes out a universe, someone else replaced it, bla bla bla or whoever it is, Thanos with HOTU and rubbish like that, and Marvel end up replacing it so that none of the events happened or the person with the uber item makes it so it never happened so the whole fight was meaningless
fights like what K-Dog described is what makes fights in Comics more interesting or in any Fiction, equel characters of unique strengths and weaknesses fighting together through cities, i think as soon as it goes past the City destroying mark up to Planet destorying and rubbish like that it becomes unbelievable and ridiculous, especially when characters are fighting with Galaxies (imps) for example and throwing blackholes that in theory they should be swallowed into to have their body parts thrown out at diffrent time periods
