Dead Girl
I saw this film.
I gave it a 5.5 out of 10. I wanted to rate it lower but the good points made it higher.
Lots of spoilers, ahead. The whole thing is pretty much a spoiler.
[SPOILER - highlight to read]: I REALLY did not like how much rape was going on. Not that it disgusted me, not that I am sensitive to that kind of thing, but because it was rather pointless at times and makes the film...I dunno...the words escape me for what I want to call it. But it wasn't done properly and it kind of shitted up the "main" character's personality for me.
The ending was absolute shit but at least the writing was going towards that ending. Still, there was a portion of me that hoped that the build up would have him visiting his JoAnn in the hospital with her making a slow recovery or something. Again, the film really did well to build up to Rickie's character "falling to the dark side" which is why I really can't rate it lower than a 5.
Some of the acting was decent and some of it was bad. When wheeler is pleading with Rickie on the stairs, the looks he's giving are very comical and not intentional. I couldn't help but laugh out loud at it. Wheeler's character should do a college comedy flick, for sure: wasted talent in a rape horror flick, imo.
The music kind of sucked and did not quite match. It wasn't completely un-parallel, but it did not fit. Low-budget made it to where they could not get their own original soundtrack, of course.
It may be because I'm just a nerd, but it would have been nice if they cut out lots of the wasted time shots (filler shit that lower budgets do) and, instead, had a 10 minute resolution portion that explained something like "1970s cold-war experiments on the rabies virus were conducted, in secret, at this facility, until they developed a rabies virus that degenerated flesh and mind, but preserved the body for an indeterminable amount of time." Something like that. On top of some sort of quarantine, and Rickie visiting JoAnn in the hospital.
I could not tell at the end if JoAnn said "**** you" when Rickie said "I love you." But, if she said that, it would still be shit writing, imo. She's dying, was saved after he genuinely warned her, she was dying, and he was spilling his guts out to her: the character's motivations to say "**** you" are lacking. Sure, someone could say that she was disgusted with him but he clearly stated to JT and in front of JoAnn that he tried to end it, wanted to end it, but couldn't end it and he was there to end it. That's pretty clear that he was "no monster." Shitty writing, again.
Anyway, there could be a second film if they did the writing better. I want to know the science behind the mystery girl, dammit.
