These 2 characters are very good strategists. What i want to discuss is who would win in a battle of wits. What if Shikamaru was in L's place would he find out labout light and how he kills.

Shikamaru wouldn't even get half as far as L did. He's geared more towards actual battle. L is simply better at planning and seeing the outcomes of every step he takes. Fact is, I think he might be a better strategist than Light.

L's ablity to plan ahead bordered on clairvoyance. Shikamaru is at best half as competent at L in that regard.

Shikamaru looks really smart because he thinks on his feet during battle. He is not as smart as L.
