Look at Sinestro Corps War.

That was all because of Sinestro's scheming and planning. Even his "losing" at the end was a part of his end game (ie. the GLC being allowed to use lethal force). He also manipulated and recruited beings more powerful than he (Anti-Monitor, Cyborg Superman, Superboy Prime, etc).

Frankly, that alone trumps any prep feat Zod showed.

I random encounter I'd say Zod has more of a chance but prep for both makes it sinestros fight to lose. He is a brutal leader with great skill with a power ring and prep would go alot further for him than Zod.

When you start comparing feats of leadership, plots and battles with their respective archenemies then sinestro shines even brighter.
