FBI does not recommend charges against Hillary Clinton

quote:
By Tom Hamburger and Rosalind S. Helderman November 6 at 3:50 PM

FBI Director James B. Comey notified key members of Congress Sunday afternoon that after reviewing all of the newly discovered Hillary Clinton emails the agency stands by its original findings against recommending charges.

Comey wrote that investigators had worked “around the clock” to review all the emails found on a device used by former congressman Anthony Weiner that had been sent to or from Clinton and that “we have not changed our conclusions expressed in July.”

The conclusion from Comey provided one last twist to the 2016 presidential campaign and came just two days before Clinton will face Republican Donald Trump on Election Day.

Comey had upended the campaign just over a week ago, when he alerted Congress that new emails had been located that were related to Clinton’s use of a private server as secretary of state.

The emails came from a laptop owned by Weiner, the estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin, and had been seized by the FBI on Oct. 3 as part of an investigation into lewd text messages Weiner is alleged to have sent to a 15-year-old girl.

Comey had come under fire for inserting the FBI into the campaign’s final days with the announcement. Department of Justice policy discourages the agency from taking steps in days before an election, to avoid the perception that the FBI is trying to the influence the outcome of the vote.

A spokesman for the FBI declined to comment beyond Comey’s letter.

Guess that settles it. Long live Ms. Clinton. (please log in to view the image)

They went through 650,000 emails in 9 days when it took 2 years to go through 50,000?

Not a single subpoena ever issued.

Another investigation whitewashed, to note though it does not say the investigation is over.

If any person had been found with even a single piece of classified information on their unsecured non governmental server they would be facing five years in jail.

It's really to bad she has a different set of rules.

Well I'm impressed that they got through those emails before the election.

It's unfortunate, but not surprising.

Of course, this doesn't negate all the things revealed by wikileaks and via the videos released.

I wonder if once again people will praise Comey and the FBI?

Since I mean, this whole FBI thing came more or less at the very tail end of this campaign, it wasn't actually the meat and potatoes of the whole "Clinton is corrupt" thing.

Even when I thought the FBI thing wouldn't be finished until after the election I didn't think she was going to lose.

This is also an interesting point and it leaves me questioning a lot of things, though not necessarily that there was a cover up. A person could easily just argue that the situation really did call for this to be finished ASAP, and thus a lot of focus was put on it and that is how it got done.

On the other hand, that in itself disturbs me a bit because I feel even when she wasn't running for president she was still in a high enough position that these emails should have been investigated ASAP as well. So why did they take their time before?

So you are ok with her getting away with things that we never would? I don't see the justice in that. The law says mishandling of classified information is against the law. One need need to prove intent, but if people want to re write the law to prove intent, the intent would be to set up a server outside the government to conduct her shady business.

I'm also confused because are we saying the reports about the maid printing out classified stuff isn't true? Since isn't that a mishandling of classified information? So I feel like okay nothing on Weiner's device showed anything, but how does that not show mishandling? Either it's a flat out lie or..she mishandled classified information.

If you read the law though, she isn't. The law never states you have to intend on breaking it.

Violation of The 2009 Federal Records Act Section 1236.22

"Federal regulations, since 2009, have required that all emails be preserved as part of an agency’s record-keeping system. In Mrs. Clinton’s case, her emails were kept on her personal account and her staff took no steps to have them preserved as part of State Department record.

I mean either it's a mishandling of classified information for your maid to print out the stuff or it isn't. There shouldn't be any gray areas here.

Didn't really say anything about her guilt or innocence, just that I was impressed and happy that they finished up looking into these new emails before the election. Having their investigation hanging over the election would have been unfair to the voters.

The FBI re wrote the law. They don't have the authority to do so, no where in any laws does it state, you have to intend on breaking the law.

If I did what she had done, I would be in jail. So she is allowed to do whatever she wants, and will continue to do so.

Yes but..speaking of being unfair to the American people, what about them taking 2 years to investigate 50,000 emails?

If there were 650,000 to go through..and this has been going on for like what, 10 days? Just using the 10 day figure, that would mean they would have had to be going through over 50,000 emails per day. Yet before it took them 2 years.

It also just seems like people are most definitely going to use this as an excuse to basically ignore all the stuff from wikileaks and on video.
