Buying products made in your country

So I have an old tool box at work and am going to give it away and upgrade. I don't want to pay 3500 bucks for a box. Id rather spend on well crafted tools. I'd rather buy a used or cheaper new one. I was going to spend a grand on a foreign made one but saw an ad in the paper for a nice Milwaukee brand box. It's a few hundred more with different dimensions but slightly more space.

Anyone know if Milwaukee tools outsources their labor?

sorry OP, but even the legendary snap-on rape vans sell many tools which are made outside of the u.s., more specifically some are made in china. same goes for milwaukee tools.

there are some tool brands which are exclusively made in the u.s. but i won't list any, because i can't vouch for their quality and thus don't want to help pimp their products. a quick google search will sort that out for you, though

PVS is right.

Here's a list of tool brands made in the US:

You've got a ton of research to do to make the best decision. It's been ages for me since I bought any tools or toolboxes. Maybe 10+ years.

Thanks pvs and ddm.

And yeah pvs, those matco and snap on tool trucks are terrible as far as prices. A co-worker of mine spent 9 grand on a matco box. I was floored.

I appreciate your guys input.

If it's a power tool Bosch really can't be beaten. In the uk I have a ten year old lithium ion mini drill/screwdriver which has had tons of use and works like new.

I can’t imagine living in a world where everything is bad, I mean at some point you need to grow up and see the better sides of things. Some apparently think the world just sucks, but they don’t realize they contribute to the bad.

Everything has outside ties. Everything.

Even paper manufacturers made the perplexing statement "While our product is 100% made in the USA, many of our suppliers have ties to china, resulting in this shortage."

Meaning they source wood from China, I guess. Or maybe the tools they use to manufacture the paper. Can only guess.

you typically cant completely avoid overseas manufacturing and parts.

if they can make a true claim of providing many u.s. manufacturing/maintenance/sales/etc jobs at fair wages, I don't care where some of the parts and manufacturing originated. that's why I recommended honda or toyota over ford/gm/chrysler to someone here with zero patriotic guilt.

thumb up

And it gets funky (for automobiles):

US and Canadian parts are listed together, and anything containing 70% US/Canadian parts or more can be rounded up and called 100% US/Canadian.

Historically you could really make an argument for it being the other way around. England having been conquered by the French and the germanic roots of the language having mixed with the French language.

Check it out, I know basic history. Lemme just awkwardly shoehorn it in by gainsaying something you didn't actually say.

Based on how you worded this, pretty sure this took you quite a while to think up, edit, and post. It was difficult, yes, but the payoff was worth it in the end?
