lantern corp would struggle to stall galactus and his heralds, the the celestials and infinates would just crush everyone, and if that didn't work they'd just bring in the infinity gauntlet, the cosmic cube and the heart of the universe....... then the living tribunal........ then hal jordan, standing there all alone.......... would crap his green pants
The way Thanos is written (read: Ridiculously overpowered) he alone would take out the whole DC universe when he has the IG and HOTU. And if you add the other Marvel slobber jobs like Galactus and his heralds, Death, Eterity, Goddess etc etc etc you have a steroid-overdose group so deep that by the time you get to the level of the Phoenix force DC would have stopped existing a long time ago. Even at one time SpiderMan (yeah, the friendly neighborhood Spidey) was made Cosmic!
Here is a pic of, ahem, Cosmic Spiderman standing next to the Silver Surfer. (please log in to view the image)
And people complain about Pre-Crisis Supes! Sheesh!
Anyways, Marvel's cosmics have levels of power that would make Pre-Crisis Superman join an Ashram! And they have by far more cosmic level entities in Marvel than there are members in the GL corps. They would win in the time it take them to have a thought!
And anyways, even uber-powerful DC characters like Parallax and Ion just would not cut it against a person like Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet! Those gems seem to gain extra powers whenever needed. And if Thanos has the HOTU then it is all over for DC.
Not even Batman's overused 'prep time' could deal with a Marvel writer gone silly/crazy with pen and ink making their cosmics do things even gods would be puzzled by!
Well, to take that out of the equation, I believe he said Marvel Cosmics vs DC Cosmics, not Marvel Cosmics w/uber-powerful artifacts. Now that the playing field is leveled...
if you take artifacts out of it then you have to take the GL rings away too, they are all just additional weapons, (this doesn't include thor's hammer as it is practically a part of him)
"And people complain about Pre-Crisis Supes! Sheesh! "
well the thing about cosmic spidey is that he was only ever meant to last a few issues, supes was like that for a loooooong time
I think this may actually be a closer match than people give credit for. Question though:
Doesn't Spectre have the same hang-ups that Tribunal has? Basically, he's the Wrath of God and can do anything, but only if God wishes for it to happen. Similar to how Tribunal can do anything within the bounds of keeping creation balanced, but he can't just step in when someone threatens to nuke Toronto or when a cosmic entity is performing within the bounds of it's purpose. Like say if DC God wanted some super powerful being killed, he'd say "Hal, take homie out" and then Spectre does his thing, but then in situations like in "Identity Crisis" he was powerless to stop a killer because it wasn't the task God had for him, even though he knew who the killer was and could have stopped him or revealed his identity, but was commanded not to.
Basically, unless the DC God says "Go kick Marvel's butt", with all of his power, Spectre is just a tool of the Almighty.
If you take away the GL rings, you take away the GL's. Their's as much a part of them as is Thor. You take away the IG or HOTU from Thanos, he's still the same Thanos that fought Odin to a standstill.
i disagree.......(seems to be happaning a lot lately) thor's hammer is much more a part of him than the GL corps rings are of them, the hammer is mystically bound to him by his father but the GL rings just get passed around when the GL dies, plus they are much more like a soldiers rifle in that (originally) they were controlled by the guardians and could be taken back at any time when the GL dissobeys orders
the GL corp is basically a millitary organisation whereas Thor is a one off deity
That's not the point you were trying to make earlier, you're going in another direction completely now.
I'll repeat again, you take away those omnipotent artifacts from someone like Thanos (IG, HOTU, which aren't part of his regular arsenal anyways), he's still a very powerful Thanos. You take away the GL rings from any GL, you take away the very thing that makes them GL's in the first place, just like if you take away the hammer that's makes Thor who he is, or the S that makes Superman who he is (in stature, not power). Are we on the same page now?
not quite, i know what you mean about thanos's toys and that he shouldn't get to play with them, but realistically a GL ring has the same affect on a human as the infinity gauntlet has on thanos (in terms of percentage power increase by a weapon anyone can harness) whereas thor's hammer can only be used by thor (ok, maybe one or two others as well..... but not many) and even without it thor's still immortal and damn strong........ if we're being fair about no toy's that don't really belong to you then GL's shouldn't get their rings....... that's all i was saying
Well, then that's pretty much saying there should be no Green Lanterns, you take away the rings, you take away them. And a GL ring and the Infinity Gauntlet don't have the same effect, since the GL ring doesn't make you "god of the universe", and the IG makes anyone, whether it's Thanos or not, that powerful. The Infinity Gauntlet and the Heart of the Universe are unnecessary objects for most characters compared the GL ring, which what makes a Green Lantern a Green Lantern.
