Timeline of the Original Trilogy

I have been curious about this for ages, but not being a complete SW geek, I've never looked hard enough to find out the answer (if there even is one).

Does anyone know the approximate time-frame from the beginning of ANH to the end of ROTJ? Thanks

(BTW: a thousand pardons if this has been discussed already and I just couldn't find it)

AOTC=22yrs before ANH
ROTS=19yrs before ANH
ANH
ESB=3yrs after ANH
ROTJ=4yrs after ANH

(BTW: can I ask how you know this? (I understand the prequels, but for episodes 4, 5 & 6 I'm curious))

Also, I am curious how much time goes by during each movie (ie: from opening credits to closing credits ... days, weeks, months?)

Empire Strikes back from New hope is 3 years damn i never thought it was that long. From ESB to ROTJ i knew it was awhile because he had become a much more skilled jedi.

i knew it was a while between empire and jedi what with shadows of the empire in the middle but i had no idea that it was that long , youd think luke wouldve made it back to yoda at some point wouldnt you

Because he's been searching for Han. Its clear in ROTJ that this is the first time he's been back since leaving in ESB. That's why the Vader/Anikan thing gets discussed in ROTJ, its the first time they meet after the events of ESB.
