Make me laugh when I go to a comedy, when I go to a horror movie....
I've heard a lot of friends bitching about the remake of Nightmare on Elmstreet, which I understand, but don't agree with. There are many people upset that the humorous freddy is gone lending way to a darker more suspense filled knife fingered bad ass. While I did enjoy the old Elm Street, very much. All the followups to the orignial were full of terrible jokes, and looked like they should have been made by that hack Tim Burton.
While humor does hold its place in a good horror movie, lets not have suspense and terror take a back seat to obvious jokes and bad puns.
Whose with (or against) me?
What are some movies that would have been better with less bad humor, or movies that took themselves to seriously, and didn't have enough levity to them?
I'm with you on that. I think its been 10-15 years since Burton has made a good movie. Alice in Wonderland looks to be similar in style to Burton's sh!tfest Chocolate Factory.

The first three Elmstreets had very little humor. The first two had almost none, as long as you don't count bad acting. It really wasn't until the fourth movie that the franchise started making fun of itself and allowed Krueger to become an evil comedian. I think the first two elmstreets are great movies. The only thing that seems to hold them back is bad acting.
I'm trying to think of a horror movie where i wish it were more serious and less humorous. I know there are many but i can't think of any at the moment. I don't mind humor in horror as long as it's balanced and it's not bad lol. I know that, nearly, everytime that i watch an Asian horror movie i usually end up thinking "that would have been a good movie if it weren't for the unnecessary and stupid humor".

Well while I do enjoy the "Funny" Freddy. I did dislike most of the nightmare on elm street sequels. But then again EVERY horror franchise gets shittier and shittier has you add on the roman numerals.
As for Tim Burton, yeah he has made nothing but shit since Edward Scissorhands.

The comedyesque sequels were at least entertaining. Well 4 was. Didn't Nightmare before Christmas come out in 1995. I would say that was the last good Tim Burton movies.

Excellent point! The first one was a fantastic horror movie, however, when someone brings up Nightmare, it's hard not to think of the corny jokes of the series, even if they came mostly in the sequels.
From such a famous director, I expect more than an "ok" movie over a 15 year time span. The singing didn't do it for me, I probably would have really liked it if it were more of a serious movie.
