You know what issue I'm talking about right? The one where Super Nova came to Earth to seek revenge on Nebula for destroying his planet or something.
Thor, Wonderman, Firelord, the Fantastic Four (Thing, Torch, Invisible Woman, Reed, Sharon), Gilgamesh, Quasar, etc.. They couldn't do anything to him.

Your right. It was actually Thor, human torch and Firelord that he repelled like bugs with his energy. Are you seriously going to sit here and argue that they weren't portrayed as mere annoyances in that arc? Seriously?
What the fudge are you talking about? Thor says Nova is charging up with energy, Nova glows with energy, and then Human Torch/FireLord absorb his energy.
If you think Thor and co. raising their arms is an indication of repelling, then you're just looking for feats were there are none.
Yes, seriously. I don't give a shit that Nova considered them to be his inferior. I've seen Thor take it to such beings too many times for it to matter at all to me.
Thor spent the entire time floating around doing absolutely nothing besides telling Nova his faced gigantic foes in the past who his defeated. He should be extremely thankful that this was a team book where Thor had to be daydreaming in order for the fight to drag on as long as it did. All Thor does is literally float there.
Like I said, the most impressive thing he did was tossing Wonder Man after Wonder Man's punch apparently hurt him. Oh, and he also had the potential of nuclear level damage! Scary! Lulz.
If it comes down to it, draining his energy with Mjolnir would be a simple enough tactic.
Unless he did something notable outside of his Avenger appearances, the Team stomps him.

Dude come on. Thor and the others were right in front of him, Thor says some bullshyt, Garthan released an energy wave that repelled them backwards. Except it or don't. I won't waste my time arguing the obvious.
"he's lucky that this was team book..." Oh good lord. This is the typical fanboy type drivel that we all laugh @ Quan about and only one response is appropriate...
Edit: (I'll keep this in mind next time you have something to say about the Nova vs Surfer/glads fights though.)
And toyed with Quasar, casually restrained wonder man (who matches Thor physically) and then disposed of the insect, casually disposed of the two things (amped version), beat Firelord into near death etc. nearly killed all of them with a seemingly casual blast which (according to the dialogue) would have killed them if not for Sue's forcefield.
Pretty sure he was going to blow up the planet. Again, at least according to the storyline.
A trick that even a Nova Syfon corpsman can easily counter, let alone Saal. Besides, they only absorbed his excess energy that he was about to blast.
Anyway the bottomline is that Garthan Saal was portrayed in that book, and others, as an above top tier teambuster. The best thing the combined strength of Simon, grimm and his chick, Thor (and I think Gilgamish was in there too) could do was lift up his leg and trip him. That's it. He turned his back and mocked The human torch and Quasar while they blasted him. He put forth no real effort to beat the Avengers because they were annoyances at best. Reed knew that, which is why he opted for bfr instead of a direct confrontation. The story speaks for itself. Anything else is nothing but conjecture and to be honest, denial.

Gender: Unspecified Location: REALM OF THE UNDERWORLD
This pretty much is a stomp in favor of the team..
The heavy hitters in those scan pretty much suffered CIS/PIS, I mean you've got a guy in there whose shield withstood continues energy assault from galactus, and don't even get me started on Thor.. For them to get casually swatted w/ a wave of energy is just poorly shown..
Who suffered from pis/cis though? Quasar tried to. Restrain him with an energy construct, the bricks tried to use muscle, Firelord and Johnny tried to drain him. I guess you could say Thor, but dude doesn't whip out every power mjolnir has in every issue. And for that matter, Saal didn't go all out either. It wasn't the best story, but it wasn't a pis book either.
Anyway I'm done here. Arguing for a character in your own thread is kinda ghey, but I wanted to test a theory and I got what I needed. The rest of you feel free to have at it.
