Why didn't Palpatine use a lightsaber i rotj?
You know when Palpatine was using force lighting on Luke? Why didn't he just use a lightsaber to kill him? It would be far quicker & if that happened, Darth Vader, Anakin now, couldn't save him.

He wanted to torture him, he was giving him a slow painful death and he didn't think Vader had the balls to kill him and thought that Vader was completely turned to the dark side meaning Vader wouldn't try to save his son

Torture. Also he considered a lightsaber to be a Jedi weapon, and one he used only because he needed to. The Dark Side's power was to be enough at times like this.
