Because the Hollywood industry is full of ambitious kids, ambitious parents, prone to secrecy and corrupt as hell. Of course predatory people are going to be drawn to this industry just like every other industry really, it's just that Hollywood has more children than say, the fashion industry or the music industry.

Better question is: how can celebrities whine and lecture us about Brett Kavanaugh when these people looked the other way over Harvey Weinsteins behavior for years?
It just doesn't make any sense to believe none of these people had *any* inkling about it. And hell if they heard rumors and never tried to confirm them it tells me they just didn't *want* to know if this was true because their millions of dollars and mansions were more important.

Any part of society with a great degree of power or influence is inevitably going to attract predators to it. It sucks, but that's how people are, we just need to always keep our eyes peeled for them.
It brings awkward stories too, like claims that Charlie Sheen banged Corey Haim while they were filming "Lucas".

Could be because she went public, instead of handling it internally. E.g. broke an unofficial vow of silence, and made them look bad.
Could be they presumed she was using this to hop onto the metoo# movement for her personal benefit. Establish herself as an advocate, and give herself more leverage in Hollywood, or an alternative career to milk if things don't pan out. People do do that.
Could be they just don't like her. It's pretty common for lead actor's/actresses's to be hated by pretty much everybody except the producer/patriarch who backs them. We saw that with Michael Bay and Megan Fox, where everyone revealed what they REALLY thought of her after Fox compared Bay to Hitler, and enraged Steven Spielberg, who demanded she be fired (Reports claim Bay didn't really want to.)
I absolutely agree Hollywood has a problem with children, but I don't think this story really proves this.

Doesn't make it right, of course. Not excusing "My people" in any of this, so much as pointing out those pointing fingers are usually hypocritically ignoring/covering up problems in their own house.

Other big Diff between Hollywood and The Catholic Church is that te Church still pretends its WRONG to do it while trying to cover it up, whereas Hollywood tries to Cover it Up but are slowly going down the road to just accepting Pedophila and starting to sa IT ISN'T Wrong..
