He can also summon his axe on its own except for that. Whatever enchantment he has that lets him call his weapons to his hands does pretty much just that as far as I can tell
Iirc he can't summon his axe. He even needed toothgnasher to fetch it for him.

Thori is the best character out of all Thor mythos...

Definitely a lot of his arm power involved... He provides the torque for his hammer throws, at least initially. The plot device is the easily obtained chain. Very silver agey.

So he is able to command his hammers to get off the ground and fly, without the need to throw them. Thanks.
I mean there's also the Loki scene where he attaches a green chain to a hammer, but that's ambiguous whether it's Loki or Thor commanding it.
So what do we know?
1. They are magic hammers
2. They can fly without needing to be thrown when Thor sends a mental command
3. There is an offpanel scene where Thor attached a chain and 'sent the hammer flying off'
What do we not know?
1. We don't see Thor throw the hammer. We assume he does, but we have no proof of this.
2. We assume that he can't command them to fly off, but we have no proof of this.
What cast iron proof do we have that this is a thrown hammer, and hence, a strength feat?

Bro, he pounded/blastedthe hammers bak at his pops.

It is indeed planet-sized:

However, this is the panel IMMEDIATELY before Albert's, where apparently we get a shot of him "preparing to throw it". Note the lack of chains.

Saint... MY GUY he’s not preparing to throw the ship in that panel. In that panel he is inside the ship talking to Valkyrie and Angela with the angels right in front of him not willing to talk. The next page is some time later as they have all left the ship and imprisoned the angels

U should see how fast he(or should we say the writer ) finds chains or rope whenever he has to tie something to his hammer... Its comicbook magic at its finest.

So no proof that he threw it. Thanks.
So no proof it was a pure strength feat.

THOR twirling the hammer is him threatening to do something . (please log in to view the image) Off panel does chains and throws, then the feat. Obviously he spun it and threw it like he normally does. But when he has it still was a crazy throw. Here’s one example (please log in to view the image)
Two different Thor's and two different hammers.

Actually was commenting on how often its happened anytime he needs to tie an object to his hammer. It's not only Aaron. It's almost automatic. Sometimes he finds them in literally one or two panels.

(please log in to view the image) (please log in to view the image) ^scan of Thor making his hammers fly without throwing them. Though the speed is relatively slow, ITS still a showing of being able to make them fly around without throwing them.

Of finding chain/rope out of his @$$?
Two off the top of my head... He cahined a line of tanks. Found the chain god knows where in one panel and threw away.
He chained a plane after one panel and dragged the plane across tbe world. Not sure where he got a chain strong enuff for that haul. Awfully convenient.
Thers a bunch of others.
