The Stranger
Prologue
Snow covered the mountain path making it impossible to see your hand in front of your face; and yet the 503rd Battalion marched onward. The 503rd was led by General Hiram Chambers who fought in wars passed. Hiram was a man with complete faith in Jesus Christ who devoted his free time to read the Bible and to pray at the start and end of each day. Hiram’s faith gave the soldiers strength to go on, strength they never knew they even had.
Still the freezing storm made it difficult to move through. Supplies were low and if nothing was done soon the enemy would advance to surround them within the canyon found in the center of this mountain range. Hiram led his men bravely across the mountain path knowing that many would die from the storm but if they didn’t reach the 311th Battalion in the west all hope would be lost. Hiram has faced many battles throughout the World War II.
Hiram was part of the US army that moved into the Soviet Union to help strengthen the defenses of Leningrad which has been under heavy siege day and night by Nazi soldiers. Hiram continues to move forward unwilling to allow the Nazis to surround them. Hiram was ahead of the troops, not by much but by enough so the soldiers couldn’t see him through the heavy snow. Still Hiram pressed forward and through the storm echoed gunfire.
The 503rd got turned around due to the thick snow and headed east instead of west and went right into the 4th Panzer Army led by Hermann Hoth. Desperately the 503rd fought but they held for the Nazis were not prepared for winter warfare. Hiram shouted orders to his men as they tried their best to fight back. The battle was fierce which resulted to hand to hand combat as ranged weaponry was useless because you couldn’t see far enough to be at a safe distance.
Hiram drew his pistol and charged shooting Nazi soldiers as they came in range but sadly he mistook some of his own men for the enemy. The fight continued until an avalanche caused by the shouting and shooting engulfed the most of the 503rd including Hiram. The remaining 503rd fled back into the mountains as the 4th Panzer Army chased them all through the night until Soviet soldiers forced them to retreat. Over half of the 503rd was lost that night.
The 503rd had nearly three thousand men now just over a thousand remained. Many lost in battle, many from the cold, many got lost, and many from the avalanche. Years later the Soviet army would pass through here as they pushed back the Nazi soldiers back to Germany. They wouldn’t be back for another year and at that time Hitler would be dead and World War II would be over. It would be this time that a secret Nazi military would be found in the mountains where Hiram was lost.
Nazi scientists have been working day in and day out on developing a super soldier, the perfect warrior and they were using the survivors of the 503rd as test subjects. None of them were alive, among them was Hiram. The Soviets kept this location hidden from the USA for the Cold War was building up. The Soviets would continue the work the Nazi never completed on trying to develop the perfect warrior. The outcome never met Stalin as the USSR would be no more…
