Could be something as simple as character property rights. Colossus is currently being used in Deadpool, so maybe the studio couldn't secure/afford the rights to show him full time even animated.
They only needed Colossus to promote the "It's Time to Fight Dirty" rallying cry the loony left was doing then. The fight with Juggernaut.
He deserves better.

A non speaking cameo in the X-Men anime

It doesn't make sense for one of the most prominent and most powerful members to be in less than a dozen animated appearances of the span of 20+ years.
I'll take your word for it as I don't really recall specifics of those shows.
But with what you said, could be audience appeal, as those shows and X-Men 97 are still largely targeted at a younger viewers, even though grown-ass adults like us watch them.
I can't see a nefarious reason and I am a Colussus fan.
That's the whole thing, there are tons of fans aside from me asking where he and other popular X-Men are and why they aren't around. People want to see him.
Felt ending was kinda rushed, more time setting up the end of season cliffhanger.
Dont actually feel like we got enough Cable. On the plus side got just the right amount of Wolverine.
Morph might have better powers than Rogue. He can copy the Hulk, Juggernaut, Quicksilver. But hes a made up character for the animation so… theres that.
