You have to have intelligence identify/find the problem or threat, decided what to do, call in a jet to do the job, jet takes off, jet finds target, jet recieves order, jet fires....this takes time believe it or not. No offense but even if the goverenment's theory sucks, I think it can fool more people than the deathstar . I mean a lot of people believe it, however if the government said Osama built a deathstar and shot the twin towers...well...I would pick option "terrorists that hate america did it" lol. I believe yes, the military aircraft should have been up there when it wasn't. However, given the amount of information they had about the planes, Im not sure they would have killed civillians. Look at it this way, they might ASSUME the plane has been hijacked but they don't know for sure, and while civilians might be calling their families telling them the plane has been hijacked, theres no way the military could know at that moment. If they shot down a plane that MIGHT have been hijacked, they will most likely kill all civilians on board, the hijackers, and anyone who could have confirmed the hijacking, along with anyone on the ground in the path of the crash. too many "Ifs" and "whats" for the military to get the go ahead to shoot down the plane.
