I have tried comparing many times, but never noticed a huge dramatic difference, it looks better, just not "Damn is that ever amazing" type of better.

Try taping one of the Prequel's on TV and watching it back on VHS. The grain actually makes the animatics look a bit more real since the textures blend in more.

OMG... I heard about people like you. I never really believed people actually existed that can't see the difference between VHS and DVD. The difference is HUMUNGOUS.
As for PAL for instance (625 lines opposed to 550 or so with NTSC) VHS only uses something like 280 lines. DVD uses up to 420 or something. It is a LOT more crisp and clear than VHS which is fuzzy and grainy.
