It wasn't initially a matter of free will, you said god wouldn't let the world be completely destroyed in a nuclear holocaust, just mostly, out of mercy. I questioned how that was merciful when if god's intervening on behalf of mankind, why not go full out and not let any part of the world and humanity be consumed in a nuclear holocaust? That would be the merciful thing to do of a god's who's intervening in human affairs.
You brought in freewill as a means to say why god would let any manner of nuclear war happen in the first place. "People have a mind of their own to make their own decisions, don't they?"
