Yeh, but it was odd that he was singled out for the ban attempt, when other players dive as well at a regular rate.
I noticed Diego Maradonna has been banned for two months after his TV outburst, of which the ""Que la chupen y sigan chupando (They can suck it and carry on sucking it)," was the highlight .
I wonder if heīll throw a wobbler in the world cup next year, could be interesting
The play off games were a bit boring, in Europe anyway. I understand the Egypt V Algeria fixture was "heated", now they are both equal as far as points and goals is concerned, so a decider in Egypt.
New Zealand have made it, quite amazing for a country with population of about 4,4 million. When you condsider Brasil has a population of 192 odd million.

oh i feel sorry for Ireland, first FIFA changed the rules so that seeded teams wouldnīt meet each other, ie France and Portugal (and Germany, but they came first after all), oh wait who is FIFA president? Platini!! I bet he was releaved!!
and now Henry handled the ball in such a blatant way it was unbelievable that the ref or a linesman never saw it. Football has become a bit of a laughing stock when you consider how many mistakes decide important games.
I personally think its corrupt to a certain extent as well, the beautiful games has become the con game.

Nope, the referee decision is final and thatīs that, unless of course if your Zinedine Zidane and head butt someone, and the FIFA wants Italy to win the world cup to raise the popularity of football after all the scandalous bribing behavior in the Italian league, then the ref did look at video footage.
Iīm actually getting sick of this Beautiful corrupt game and might check out ice hockey instead.

It was Thierry Henry and it was a handball. It was wrong, inexcusable and he should get a JUST penalty from the relevant authorities. Keane committed a handball that same game, so let's not start getting racist.
Thierry Henry has said that a replay would be fair, that he's embarassed for what he did and just about every other respectable French football ambassador has said the same.
France got outplayed and Ireland deserved the win, but chill out. You're not even Irish, so why does it bother you?
Time for them to get with the times, then. Really is no reason these days to not have instant replay for the officials to go to in these kind of situations.
If there is a silver lining to all this, it's that this incident will probably be the kick to the butt that they need to make such a decision. Perhaps they will implement instant replays now because of this.
Hockey rules. And there are instant replays for every controversial play, and if the call on the ice was incorrect, it is reversed. I think this is how it should be with all sports. Especially for something of this magnitude.

The reason they won't do it is because these people, the ones who don't actually play the sport or who haven't in a long time, feel it would take the magic out of the game.
They feel that part of the intensity is that games are more varied and left to chance if a crazy decision can change a game.
Of course, if you're playing for Ireland, Chelsea, Arsenal or any team that has been screwed by bad decisions; you don't think "That's part of the magic.".
It bothers me because it was wrong, and these things happen to often. I didnīt really care who went through to be honest, as long as they deserved it.
You can see that Henry regrets it, heīs human he made a mistake but the mistake should have been seen by someone.
Henry is an excellent player who has such rhythm and harmony, has made lots of football fans happy with his skill and appears to be a good sportsman, so he should be forgiven and not made the big bad evil dude scapegoat in all this, its the officials and lack of the use of technology which is the problem.

Yeah, basically the 'tradition' argument. Really does hold no water. There's nothing magical about a game being decided on a bad play or a blind official.
It's really their own ass if they don't do it. More plays like this will occur, and it will dent the credibility of the sport continually until it enters into self parody. Baseball is experiencing a similar effect. Many of the playoff games this season were decided by extraordinarily bad calls.

The only time I think the whole tradition aspect shouldn't be messed with is baseball's strike zone.
Both teams get the same strike zone so they both have to deal with it. A bad strike or a bad walk doesn't really affect the game's outcome that much compared to a handball resulting in a game winning goal. As for home runs and foul balls, that's different.
It make's alot of sense to have replays for at least goals. It would be easy to do and wouldn't slow the game that much.
Donīt know if its been mentioned in the UK news, but there is a new football betting scandal raising its head on the horizon. At a news conference the prosecutors said that about 200 games were thought to be affected, including three Champions League games and 12 Europa League games.
