I would have loved it. Actually, I wished the puppet could have been in Eps. II and III. All they'd have to do is put the digiyoda in during the fight scenes, and keep the real puppet for the close-ups.
That way, Yoda's fight with Dooku would have been cool, and the closeups would happen when Yoda spoke, such as "Fought well you have, my old Padawan."
It wouldn't have been impossible. They mixed in a digiyoda with the puppet twice in The Phantom Menace: At the end of the movie in a far shot where he's walking down the gangway of Palpatine's ship, and secondly where he and Obi-Wan meet and he says "Confer on you the level of Jedi Knight, the council does." Then it switches back to the puppet for the next line, "But agree with you taking this boy as your padawan learner I do not!"

Re: whatever happen to yoda's lightsaber?
If you remember, the Jedi study the art of DEFENSE. Why in the hell would he need to use a lightsaber in dagobah, with no real danger? against luke? against R2?
There was always the possibility that Vader or Palpatine could find Dagobah, and on it, Yoda. Other than the threat of the Empire, Dagobah's threats could be easily resolved with some of those calming techniques that Jedi use to tame animals.

THIS IS WHAT WE'VE WAITED FOR
THIS IS IT, BOYS, THIS IS WAR!
The Jedi Master lost his weapon when he engaged the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Sidious, in a duel in the Senate Building in 19 BBY. When the Dark Lord used Force lightning to disarm him, Yoda lost the lightsaber which fell to the ground below, but he recovered the weapon, and kept it in a box in his hut on Dogobah while in exile. After his death in 4 ABY, it is presumed that his lightsaber remained inside the hut never to be recovered.

Yeah we've been racking our brains about this topic for nearly 8 years. Couldn't figure it out until now. Thanks SO much!

Most of you don't know your starwars.... to get a lightsaber you must first get a sabercrystal from a special cave on a remote planet. You must use the force to pick the right sabercrystal. The force has a good side, and a bad side. It gives you visions while you are in the cave and they distract you. The visions are usually of people you love or hate telling you what to do, and they are very life- like... so in order to get a new lightsaber, you must find the right sabercrystal.
he picks it up in the books it say while his escaping he only stops to slash a few pipe line to slow the clones down, and you also see it in the movie when he is jumping in to bail`s speeder
Actually, according to Wookiepedia, the lightsaber he lost against Windu was never recovered, he had another, identical lightsaber that he used against Yoda in the Senate chamber. Also, when Sidious fights Darth Maul and Savage Opress in the Clone Wars Series, he wields both sabers at the same time to fight the two.
Interestingly enough, in the recently published Making of Return of the Jedi, Lucas explained stuff about Palpatine and Yoda and lightsabres… This was 1982/83 … and he said Force users like Palpy and Yoda didn't have lightsabres, they weren't force users that wielded them. They were Force users (jedi) on a different plane. He seemed to hint that some Jedi had more soldierlike tasks and others more a philosophical, meditational, wisdom seeking task.
All in all: Lucas keeps changing his mind how all this works. Always in motion is Lucas, so who cares about Yoda's saber: he wasn't supposed to have one in the OT, in the PT he suddenly does. Clearly he doesn't need it to scare away snakes.
Wow what incredible dicks some of you are for all any of you know Yoda's lightsaber could hold all the significance or none of the significance as we now see in the force awakens with the reappearance of Anakin's original lightsaber that was lost by Luke on Cloud City Yoda did have his lightsaber after the battle of Sidious it is seen in his belt after he enters the speeder in the movie and used by him in the books to aid his escape from the Clones and according to Wikipedia was in his Hut on Dagobah Yoda most likely would not have left himself unarmed and unable to protect himself with the Empire having just executed order 66 and then later on hunting down the remaining Jedi with inquisitors four through his connection with the force Yoda would have known his importance in the future and would have wanted to be able to ensure his own Survival Yoda's lightsaber could still show up in episode 8 and 9 and it could potentially be wielded by just about any force-user as it is not uncommon for Jedi to use smaller lightsabers or Shoto lightsabers in their off hand and such an old and Powerful Masters lightsaber would be appealing to almost anyone or it is equally as likely that is still sitting in the Hut in Dagobah put in a world where we have already seen that everything is interconnected and things long thought lost and irrelevant pop up in new and unexpected ways there's no need to bash perfectly good questions and/or theories don't be dicks
