But we don't. hehehe. All we get is fights in forums like these (for as long as they will continue to exist).
Yeah, the Marvel comparison is rather comforting. The only difference is though: Marvel has a huge amount of source material. SW hasn't, it has to be made Indiana Jones style: making it up as they go. And that might be tad slippery.

Well technically there is all the Old Eu stuff they can borrow from or base stories on. But yeah I agree that comic book movies have a big advantage when it comes to source material.
It's same with Marvel films though. For instance with Captain America:Civil War coming next year, they were free to discard the Civil War storyline from the comics. And even when they're adapting it they're free to change as much as they want from the source material.
So in much the same way the Old EU has no real validity for SW Canon, the Marvel comics really have no validity for the Marvel films, but it just gives them tons of ideas they can draw from.
Yeah, but the movies are BASED on the comics. The EU is BASED on the original movies. So to base movies on books and comics based on movies is rather diluting the material.
Marvel is using the characters from their extensive library of published comics in which the characters and villains are well established. To adapt that for the screen is quite a different matter than using EU tidbits in SW movies. The Marvel comics ARE the source, the EU is NOT the source for SW.
Yeah like the Thrawn trilogy, Shadows of the Empire, Force Unleashed, all the TOR stuff..
So point is they don't have to make every story from scratch. They've already done that with TCW, introduced EU characters like Quinlan Vos, had story arcs based on EU Stories like the Republic Slaves one.
Of course they don't have anywhere near the "quality" material that Marvel has to draw from, so there will be a lot more stories that have to be made up from scratch. But it is something to help at least.

True, but i doubt they will do that. I'm sure there will be some licensing issues with the authors. I know Lucasfilsm retains the publishing rights, but the authors are not without rights. It's cheaper and more flexible to work with new stuff. Not to mention the fact that the EU often contradicts.
