I have to admit that when the first trailer dropped around a year ago for the The Last Jedi, I wasn't overly impressed, and it turned out that I quite enjoyed it.

i just can't stand rose tho. my god i never seen such a pointless and cringey character in star wars.
i feel much the same way about TLJ as i did with ANH, and rose is jar-jar but worse...jar-jar pod racing with an ewok as co-pilot...which now that i think of it would have probably been more fun than her abominable scenes.

They definitely could have taken out rose for more Luke & Rey screen time. Or Poe/Leia....whoever. The casino plot didn't serve the movie overly well. It was a big 180 over the The Force Awakens which I think semi hinted at Rey being Finn's love interest.
I liked Rose as a character, she was likeable enough. But she still felt kinda pointless. More of a way of establishing that Finn has a case of the 'not gays' than anything else.
Would have been preferable to have Finn off with just Benecio del Toro, or keep him with best friend Poe. Doing something that felt like it was of more consequence and substance than Casino World.

The Rose and Finn plot was rather pointless. And TLJ had the most boring space chase scene in history: ships that don't (appear to) move. Who came up with that? And since when does one need fuel to keep going forward in space????
Fuel is need for breaking or accelerating. If you're at max thrust, cut the engines.
See this is what happens when too much real world science enters the fantastical space saga about magic monks and their laser friends. I can take the plot weirdness, the character motivation strangeness, and the general okayness of the story as a whole... but if they ever start explaining in a future movie the reason why we're hearing sounds in space, I think THAT will be the moment I stop watching these films forever.

i mean, i get it: star wars is a retrofuturist vision of naval/air WW2 battles in space and a homage to flash gordon. the problem is that they revolved the whole plot around one of these silly and traditionally subtle elements, like resistance/drag in space. most of the plot was just dumb. it's astounding that i still like this movie

I really can't stand that this movie had an underwhelming and meandering plot full of inconsistencies and silliness. Whatever happened to the days of AotC, when Star Wars plots were f*cking excellent?
