Video editing software
I need to edit a avi file that I watch with VLC. What can I edit with, link if possible. Also has to be a free download.

Perhaps if you download the right codec you can use Windows Movie Maker to do so.

If you want to invest a couple thousand dollars in a professional program, you could get Avid. It's quite literally the best video editing program out there.
You're not gonna get anything quality for free.

Anything slightly better than WMK would be good, there is a really good one but wont work with the file I have.

You can adjust the quality that it saves at. I never have any issues using it.
Anyway, you're not going to find a decent video editor for free.

When you save the video file - it's either Export Movie or Publish Movie.

Don't know how to do that, just save movie I have, but I looked and saw I can choose how to save it, I'll try the other options next.

This is the best video editor program you can get as far as FREE goes.
If you're willing to shell out extra cash, then I recommend Adobe After Effects
