im talking like an entire movie. if they did it for one sequence then they'd have to do it for the rest. they only animated his clok because CG hands were rubbing through it. if commander cody had fake armor for a shot it would be because there were other involvements with outside CG characters, or he was being blown up or has a saber being lunged into him.
