Ravings of an Ape-like President....

Okay. This is where I'm going to put my poetry. I'd prefer it if no-one else posted their poetry in here, unless it's just a one-off.

Right - well, t'would probably be better if I explained a little about myself so you can see where my point of view is coming from. Unfortunately, I have neither the patience nor the mindset to say anything but my age - 15 - so you'll have to make do with that!

I enjoy reading other people's poetry, especially on relevant topics, or poems that put a different slant on things. Strangely, I don't like reading non-rhyming poems, but some of my poems do not rhyme. Ah well... That's my introduction - now on with the poems!

Some of you will recognise these poems from the Poetical Justice thread, but a few are new ones that I'm typing up as I go.

A lot of my poems are about religion. I don't know why - I don't really follow any religion. Ah well. Here goes.

Religion

Religion is the belief of the masses
That life must have a point.
Without it many would not survive.
Death would be rife.

As is natural, each faith passes
Believer numbers waxing and waning,
Like an unholy moon.
And as wars are fought in God’s names

Real deities weep. Life is theirs,
Not ours. And so we kill,
Thinking we have the right.
Many kill without reason,

And so we condemn them.
But religion does as religion will,
And religion always knows best.
Like some twisted parent

Possibly teacher. We must understand,
Religion always knows best.
Always listened to by
The voters in a country,

Some separation of church and state.
The first question to be asked is;
This power was given. Why?
Many answers to this question

Only one of which can be true,
Much like a logic puzzle.
However, what we must know is
An answer lost in the mists of time.

I cannot answer it
As I worship no religion.
Faith is not my lord,
But thine.

My Personal Anger

It’s mine. My personal anger.
Directed at anything. Terrorism,
Catholicism, Racists,
George W. Bush. ****ing wanker.
Pisses me off. Criticism,
Religion. I could make lists.
Right now, in this car,
What pisses me off most I me,
A shit poem, I could say anything,
I’m too selfish to take it far,
Maybe my conscience has a key,
Or maybe the mind is king,
As I think I realise,
Another thing I hate,
Something that makes me angry,
Governmental lies,
American policies, a UN wait,
I hope it’s not just me.
But anyway, that’s it,
A few things. The pope, me,
Racism, that American wanker.
The things that make me feel shit,
Pity it’s not a perfect world, but see,
It’s mine. My personal anger.

Flicker

Have you ever watched a candle flicker?
Its flame dancing in the night.
Standing on the border between darkness
One sole beacon of light.

Do you think it would be good to be that candle?
The simplicity of existance it would bring,
No ears to hear, no eyes to see,
No hands to touch, no mouth to sing.

But those are not bad things, are they?
A candle has but one purpose, one aim.
The mind would be free, to love and think,
While dancing in that flame.

Yep, comments are welcome! I just don't want it turning into a discussion thread like Poetical Justice.

God Bless America

With only one more breath
I condemn you all to hell
And as I die I pray
But only time will tell

If you're gunna kill us all
If you're gunna destroy this world
And then stand proudly, singing
The Stars and Stripes unfurled

God bless America. The saviour,
The saviour of the free
And I think, what'll you do,
When you’ve cut down the last tree.

And so if I had one breath,
I'd send you all to hell,
It's unbelievable; you'd fit right in,
You'd probably do well

Shadows flaring in the dark,
Who knows what goes on,
There, by the swings, in the park.

Noone goes there any more,
Well, noone I know.
Stay in bed, lock the door.

That's what the police say.
But they don't live here.
They go their own way.

So, as I look out of my window
At the park, at the shadows by the swings,
I feel we've reached another low.

I don;t know where this came from. I just started typing.

It's one of my favourites stick out tongue

Even though I'm considering going to Uni in America wink

Jesus was a God
Or so I have been told
By the true believers
Those who deserve the world

You’re not allowed to think
Your sight’ll be too clear
Christianity dictates,
You’re kept in line by fear.

But if you could you’d see,
What I have always seen.
Watching with my eyes
Not through a TV screen.

And if you could you’d know,
What I have always known.
Your lives are all controlled
Not as free as they’re shown

And yes, there is a trinity.
But it’s not a holy search.
One people, one government
One everlasting church.

There’s no separation of church
Nor state. It’s impossible
The church rules the people,
To make its coffers full.

It dictates the votes
And so politicians must pray
To show their devotion and faith
They have to swing the church’s way.

So brush away the film
That is in your eye.
Look clearly, think individually,
See the truth behind the lie.

You’ve only got till death,
For some heaven is reward.
For others it’s the end –
Love Jesus Christ the lord.

Or you’ll be told off all too soon,
By an ever-present spirit.
Show them you’re not scared,
Tell them you don’t fear it.

And so I say ‘fini’,
My message is at the end,
Take my meaning in,
Treat it as a friend.

My contest entry...

D.E.A.T.H

Dream girl hanging from her rope
Ended it - she couldn't cope
Anxious eyes have no more sight
The last sleep of an eternal night
Hung, to ever leave the light.

Dark alleyway hiding a bloody knife
Ever repeated - life after life
Able hands take no more money
The black night of a day that was sunny
Humanity, revealed as funny.

Drifting away is so much more pleasant
Earthbound - soul heavenwards sent
Aging mind will think no more
Thoughts of peace, not anger, not war
Happiness shown at last to be pure.

This is the entry I was going to submit. However, I wrote two, and decided upon the other one.

Nothingness awaits us
Beyond a simple light
Darkness ringed in flame
House on fire in the night

A back alley mugging
Stab wound to the throat
Beckoning clear blue surf
Remains left to ever float

Comfortable welcome bed
Passed away while we sleep
Yet we fear the unknown
And tears of sorrow weep.

This place of grey
does not really
exist. It is
simply just a
creation of a society
too structured to
be original.

Here is made and
cloned the next
generation of this
land.

Here are the facts of life taught.

But truly in that,
that teaching, is all
the imagination ruined,
as opinions come with facts.

And teachers can never be wrong.

Thus is this, our
perfect society
revealed in its
ignorance and
it is judged.

Judged. And found wanting.

This empty place in the
corner of my mind is
where I go when I am
alone. It is here that
my life plans unfold,
here that the most
base form of me resides
and here that I speak
with my soul.

Yet why am I here now?

I don't know. Maybe it
is all a lie but I cannot
tell this. I must be
careful that I do not stay
here for too long, for
if I should then my
mind would retreat from
what I most hold dear.

Such is the cost of my humanity.

My attempt at a sonnet;

Love, Flower, Consent

If I had but one power,
I’d wish for my life in thine,
Living on one muses’ line.
Thy beauty is to me a flower,

Beneath which all others must cower.
Thy face is a star that shines,
A portrait with detail so fine,
I beg for but one favor.

And should thee consent it to me,
For thee I’d lose my life.
For thee, I’d do anything,
Mayhap your heart has a lovers key?
My love for thee is rife,
And to that I would sing.

My Carrolism

"Prithy sir," asked the fool,
"Wither is thy malbonoy?"
"You scoundrel, ask the friar,
"Look there upon the stool!"

As the merchent happened to reply.
The jewels upon his fingers,
Did glinter in the firelight,
As the singers caught his eye.

Four in all they stood arrayed,
Like the square garden outside.
Their pleasant voices split the air,
Whilst the overfat friar prayed.

"Oh sugarlumps!" exclaimed the friar,
As he called for his best pipe.
"I hath lost thy malbonoy,
"Whence I rested by thy fire!"

The fool, he laughed and tumbled,
Until the merchent knocked him down,
"No more of that, you tumblecaw,
"You wretch you fool!" he rumbled

And thus all agape was the friar.
He was a-shivering,
And looked a tremblewraught,
On his way back to the prior.

Creativly a world appears,
Born of God's soft touch,
And of blood, of tears.

Such a legend He commands
Of trees, of life, of man,
Set in the most precious lands

Yet to strike it all,
He gives us rules,
Around Heaven appears a wall.

You must be good, you must hold faith,
Or it's Hell for you,
As a tortured wraith.

Look out, look out! Beware!
And stay on guard,
For heathen priests and unkempt hair.

They'll try and change the ways of God,
They'll invade your mind,
In the land of nod.

So it's up to you, my friend.
Your choices in life,
Choose your journey's end.
