let us begin in the golden age of comics.i'll work my way up from there.
feat 1(marvel comics #3).torch first stops a huge,flying boulder in it's tracks,melting it.then he flys through a steel train like a hot knife through butter and rescues a small child.he's shown amazing control over flame from his very beginning in the GA of comics.he doesn't even burn the baby,who is surround by flames as he is held in jim's arms.not to mention that he melted the train while holding a moist blanket for the baby.also,the torch can run at superhuman speeds and leap great distances(i believe he did this before he learned how to fly):
feat 3(marvel comics #6).jim hammond is again showing great control over flame and heat by forming a solid forcefield of fire over him and another person to stop artillery shells:
You can lump more than 1 feat on a post to save room and make it more readable. Something like 8 thumbnails can fit on a post, or many, many more if you use links instead of thumbnails.
And the first appearance is fine, but after that make sure you limit this to feats only instead of entire issues. Otherwise, I'll have to end up editing them out due to copyright issues.

he doesn't do to shabby either.if you've been to the legendary namor respect thread,you know just how formiddable this guy is.i guess that makes jim hammond pretty formiddable too.(just to clarify.i know namor hasn't had an official upgrade ever in his continuity and GA namor appears to be just as strong,but it's possibly that GA namor is maybe a tad less resistant than his other incarnations.still,fighting ANY incarnation of the sub-mariner does prove jim to be a pretty powerful opponent)
oh,and about that scene with he monster.it appears torch can sort of just "hover" in the air when he flames on.he apparently becomes lighter than air in this process.
