Not sure if this fits into the music forum completely, but I couldn't think where else to put it.
I'm a pretty keen clubber, especially since moving to London, and I've heard little to no talk about what's become quite a major passion for me on the boards, so I'd be interested to hear what kind of places you guys like/frequent - music-wise, events, people, drinks etc. Personally I'm not too picky, as long as a venue has a good atmosphere and halfway decent music I'm guaranteed a good time, but recently I've been thinking about experimenting and moving away from the huge mainstream ''super clubs'' and trying some more 'underground' places, so if anyone has any tips that'd be great.
You can catch me in Scala, Ministry of Sound, Fabric (say what you want, it's still the most insane, sweat-drenched night you can get) and my local, Plan B most weekends. Time to branch out though! I've been to a couple of indie clubs, the music tends to be pretty consistent but the crowd is so full of scenesters it's sickening. It's like being in a Hadouken! song sometimes.
Every time i've gone out to any of the clubs here (aus) they've been so full of people going out of their minds over rubbish music i've wanted to leave almost straight away. Even when the music is ok i still like to be able to order a drink without screaming my lungs out and then pay $10 for something that cost $4. But in the end its all down to the person, i'm just not a fan of the scene.

I am aware that "your" should be "you're," and while I know I should change it as not to offend the grammar fans around the boards, school always said not to bow to peer pressure so it stays as it is
I think deep down I'm a bit of an elitist, but I've learned to completely suppress that and just enjoy the fact that people are enjoying themselves, if that makes sense. As I said, it has to be at least halfway decent music for me, but the atmosphere is much more important. Price-wise, it is a total rip-off though, that can't be argued.
And screaming at bartenders is an artform. Too quiet, you get nothing, too loud, you get nothing and a storm of abuse, too quick, you get nothing and they assume you're too drunk to be allowed anything else anyway.
I've never been a club kind of guy for the simple reason that I've never liked the idea of going to a place full of other people just to listen to music I might not even like.
The Camden Underworld seems like a decent place to socialise, but other than that, I've never been a fan.
I accompanied a friend to a club/rave thing while I was in Canada, cos she had nobody to go with, and I didn't find it enjoyable at all. I appreciate that some do, it's just not for me.
I don't like that kind of music anyway, but it is what it is. Elevator music probably wouldn't seem decent outside of an elevator, same as rave music wouldn't seem like it fits anywhere outside of a dark, neon drenched club.
I dont like 'elite' clubs, I'd rather stick to rave clubs cause its all relaxed, no strict dress codes, no tight ass security, people that are there cause they want to be there not because it makes them cool to be there, etc.
i live in a small city but 10% of the population is students (around 13,000) and so the club scene is pretty lively and varied...the bigger clubs try and encompass all by putting different music on different levels...the main club, fatties, has the cheesy 70's 80's and 90's rock and pop for old idiots desperately trying to cling onto their youth (like me)
the middle floor is hip-hop or dance music depending on what night of the week...and the bottom is chart pop and indie where all the under agers congregate
there's a decent selection of alternatives...late license jazz bars, metal clubs etc...
i'm not out that often except for gigs so it when i do go "clubbing", usually with people from work, it keeps me amused dependant on my state of intoxication
I do enjoy going clubbing, but where I live it seems to be a bit of an anti climax. The main reason is that I've been to all the clubs around the area now, both the music and the atmosphere has become boring. I'm looking forward to when I go to university now, so I can experience a more varied nightlife.
Also the problem with the Torquay area, is that it's a constant struggle not to get stabbed.

i dont think the point of a club is to go there and listen to the actual music. primarily the main objective, of most clubs at leasts, are to dance, get wasted, or get a one night stand. i mean of course you have jazz clubs, and poetry corners, and all other stuff, but what i think DB is talking about is dance clubs.
well coming from the city that gave birth to the legendary HACIENDA,Jillys Rockworld and later SANKEYS SOAP weve always been spoiled clubwise in Manchester whatever your tastes be it Metal,Indie,Eclectic beats,60s pop,Funky house,Techno etc etc and we always tend to get the big names stopping by to do sets every week from Peaches to Grandmaster flash
theres a large percentage of older folk who still like a night out on the town away from the pubs
theres a change going on as there seems no age limit on going out, getting shitfaced and pogoing to a bit of The Undertones nowadays whereas in the older days clubs were pretty much for under 25s
nowadays i tend to go to Fab Cafe - a science fiction and cult tv theme club/bar that is full of memorabillia including a full size Dalek by the dj stand and cult movie classics on screens everywhere you look
throw in a soundtrack of The Chemical Brothers,Blondie,Pixies,Joy Division and The Smiths etc and it adds to a great night without any dickheads out to carve you up for getting in their way which Manchester has its fair share of....but if you stay away from the RnB /Commercial Hip Hop clubs you tend not to get any of this.
Yeah, I find that too. Even the hardcore dance clubs tend to be relatively friendly most nights as they attract people who just want to have fun, although admittedly it has a little to do with everyone being out of their skulls on ecstacy in a lot of places.
I literally cannot wait to get the fvck out of this county, and into a more exciting nightlife. The people here treat it like night club Utopia, when in fact a lot of time the atmosphere at the post office is just as exhilarating.

We have alot of good clubs out here in Boston like "Vincent's a.k.a. "Lambardo's", "TheAvalon", "ClubAccess", "Aria", "Matrix", "Confetti" was cool in Rhode Is. but was shut down cause of frequent fighting after the last call, which is what sucks big time about clubs. Dudes can't just fcukin' chill. We have "Cosmopolitan", "360", "Venu" which is the most popular and that's just off the top. But I'm not that big of a clubhead now. Not anymore, at least. I now go once in a blue moon but when I did or do go it's just to get girls number or have a drink or 2 with friends. I'd only dance if the girl was mad pretty, but i'm not really into the dancing thing. But clubbin' is cool, but only in moderation.

To be perfectly honest, I don't really go to clubs to pick up girls. I mean obviously, I've done it a couple of times but it was (initially) unintentional. I don't like one night stands, at all. But anyway, for the most part, I go to clubs for the experience, really. There's nothing like being in the heat, the center of the dancefloor when a trance or d'n'b song drops, the ambient riff right before the drum beat kicks in, it's an amazing experience. Especially in places like Fabric. Ecstasy is the only drug I do whilst clubbing, and it does enhance the experience. Being out there, surrounded by dancers at 5am in the morning, bass pounding through the floor, walls and speakers themselves, brain swimming in adrenaline, lasers, UV body-paint and whatever the f*ck else may be going on, that for me is a transient musical experience up along side seeing Opeth perform an acoustic set out in the fresh spring air a couple of years ago, and aiding Daryl Palumbo ''crowd surf'' in a moment of pure emotional catharsis at the end of ''Hurting and Shoving''. I love it, I really do. Judge me if you will, but it's mind-blowing.
That pretty much sums up any further contribution I could make to this thread.
Like all drugs, it depends on the person, certain things can effect certain people in a vastly different way from others. If you don't feel it's worth the risk, don't. The comedown from E is pretty brutal, although like alcohol it doesn't manifest til the morning, after sleep. My mouth and eyes often end up dried out and crusty, to a ridiculous extent, and the headaches can be torture.
But then if you've experimented with base, you'll probably be OK. Oh jesus, this is really starting to stray into un-PC territory
