He did, but I think the main reason that Mimic was nothing more than your run of the mill creature feature, was that Bob Weinstein kept forcing Del Toro away from his original vision.
I liked Mimic for what it was and I would like to see a director's cut.

Mimic is underrated and deserves more credit than it gets.
IMO its one of the only movies that has scary 'jump scares'.

Hell yeah Mimic one was a pretty solid movie, the whole corny b-movie mutated killer bug concept was well done by Del Toro he made it actually scary.
Shame about the sequels but lol don't that happen nearly everytime.
